In the Age of Myth 1015;

Melbil Shorastasrer and her baby daughter Rigoth Avuzetost were killed while fighting a Forgotten Beast that made its way in through a gap in the defenses of the lower levels. Besmar Misber also died.

Alath Kenasen is old enough to make her way to another fortress. She is deemed too flighty to settle down and is sent away.

This brings us to 6 adults, 11 children. None of the fortress-born are having romantic thoughts yet.

True, but it's worth taking it in context.   Of six adults that are presently in the fort, two are already hitched, one is outside of the 10-year age gap (and was already married once), and the other three are all siblings.  The apparent lack of dwarfcest is worth knowing about, though, if it keeps up.

I'm not positive since I haven't observed such a phenomenon in the fortress mode (the joys of negative proof), but I was under the impression it was the case.  Specifically, I read it on the wiki under the marriage entry when I was researching the matter earlier and assumed that research had already confirmed it, but I have made no such confirmation for myself, so I can't be absolutely proof-positive on the matter.

Dwarves must be within 10 years of each other in age, and must not be children or babies, to enter into a romantic relationship. Being friends may be a prerequisite as well. The 10-year restriction only applies in fortress mode, so incoming pregenerated dwarves (i.e. migrants) may have a larger gap between their ages. No marriage between siblings has been observed, but cousins or other distant relatives can marry each other.

Huh. It will be interesting to see how that plays out in practise. Although there will be around 13 fortress-born within 10 years from the oldest, so in theory it should not be too limiting.

By dwarven standards, that's not incest Dwarfs don't marry siblings or their own parents (parents tend to be already married anyway), everyone else is fair game as long as orientation and presumably age agree.

When dwarfs could still marry, cousins would marry each other.

Parents, children and siblings are the only blood relations that have related thought messages: "talked with father/mother/a child/a sibling"; no such messages exist for any other familial relation, dwarfs will instead build normal social relations with them that don't get displayed on the relations screen.
