Mass pitting & item recovery?
« on: January 10, 2015, 02:40:59 pm »

I've caught a large number of walking corpses, ordered them stripped and the seizing of their items. However, the item recovery is taking forever, and I'd prefer to dip most of them in magma sooner rather than later (I think the rest would be ideal for creature logic experiments). The question is then:
Can I seize and order dumping of the items and then immediately proceed to build the cages by the pit and throw them in, or do I have to wait until the items have been recovered? I am not aware of any means by which I can determine which corpses are clean and which still have items. Is there a way of doing that?

Just make a magma flood room, you want want to keep anything other than metal items anyway, and as a bonus it gets rid of the enemies.

Well, since dorfs are unable to make, yet crave, filthy soiled goblin loincloth, I actually want to get the clothing as well. The non exotic stuff can then be dumped on caravans together with the xsockxs. Also, there is a random variation in what clothing you CAN make; for instance, I can't make robes in my current fortress, and couldn't make high boots in the previous one.
When they are stripped, I'm going to throw them down the hatch in my workshop down into the magma channel for disposal.

Are you taking away They items by asigning cages on stockpile as "dump" by d-b-d and then manualy deasigning cages using k-d?

@Nikow: Yes, but the complete sequence is actually d-b <mark area> 'd'ump <mark area> and then k-d on each cage. The wiki states you should first 'c'laim the items (which I think might not be needed if the global settings are changed to claim everything, but I won't take the chance to do without), and 'c'laim is the default action under the d-b sub menu.

Thank you, so you are using the same method. I have no more questions. Only optimalization i found is dumping your goods on stockpile and then hauling it by minecart... or just leaving there after reclaiming them back.
