Classic Masterwork : Mechanical Dragons?
« on: January 08, 2015, 03:09:23 pm »

So in my game of Masterwork, a gnome caravan came along and they had an absolute ton of warbeasts, which I, playing human and still building my castle, greedily snatched up :p

I understand for the most part how to use animals as part of squads, I had most of the animals trained to be war animals, but I don't know how to use the dragons. I can assign my drakes, bears and wolves to my soldiers, but not the dragons. Is this working as intended, since I honestly have no clue how to use them  ???

To my grasping at least (take this at face value, I've not played gnomes to an extent I'm confident), but like turrets and such other 'odd ball pets' made rather than born, they don't seem to be able to follow as a 'pet' to a soldier.

You have to use it via a pasture in the path of an enemy, or stick it in a cage and then rig the cage to a lever - and throw the lever to 'unleash the Kraken!' on enemies. Or if you're nuts, you can stick it in a cage and use it in a catapult I believe, and launch the cage at enemies (course catapults can't be accurately aimed, so it's a general thing) and literally shoot a 'mech-dragon-bomb' at the enemies. :P Did this way back with like 190 dogs I had to cage, bloody HILARIOUS to picture in your head (and the siege got torn to bits from this, was hell to clean up though).

So yes, I don't believe they can be assigned to the military, cage or pasture is the only option I can see at the moment.

Ah, thanks! :D That helps a lot. I was just leaving them to wander in my storage pasture. I guess I could put them infront of my castle's barbican, should be sufficient to keep the fortress safe from harm.

On a side note, do you know if it's possible to breed drakes? They're going to be a major part of my castle's warbeasts alongside bears and wolves, but they don't seem to be egg layers like I would have expected.

Drakes do breed, and are not egg layers. They are not grazers, and you can sheer them for scaleplate. But as far as I know, you can't armor them. My favorite war animals are steelclad grizzly bears.

Their natural scale is rigid scaleplate so that's already iron grade. Still, not steel, but their size and strength make up for that.  I always imagine them as a buffed up and odd (mammal?) form of the Komodo dragon.  Not sure how they compare with steel grizzlies.

My posts are probably based on Masterwork DF mod

Spoiler: Drakes (click to show/hide)
Opening that spoiler doesn't actually show anything. having quoted it though I can see what was intended was to show an image from this link, though going to the link myself doesn't show any image in particular which might be the problem. The not working link: http://www.creativeuncut.com/gallery-11/art/ff14-drake.jpg

Its a feature. Impregnating booze is a planned tech tree for dwarves and this is a sneak peek at it.

One day, civ mounts will work.
One day, we'll ride on scaily warbeasts.
One day, our dorfes will feast with their new best friends forever, the drakes.

A man can only dream.
