People seem to need to be reminded occasionally, for whatever reason...

We live in interesting times.
Apparently analysts fail when the dissatisfied public is falling into an extended, maddened frenzy.  Will naked id guide the world into a golden age?  I guess we're going to find out whether we like it or not.

I'd much rather read about interesting times then live in them.

It's an odd curse.  If I am cursing someone to live in interesting times, what am I planning for myself? I guess it's an alright curse if you are on your deathbed.

It's apparently fake (not Chinese, falsely attributed) at least according to Wikipedia.
I assume it's supposed to be personal, or meant for someone who lives far away.  Which in the late 30's actually meant some degree of safety from blowback.

The trick to it is that there's a (significant) difference between interesting times and an interesting life; most of the confusion I've seen comes from conflating the two. The latter can still occur in very boring times, and is something usually fairly desirable, so long as it's not too deadly or crippling. The former is when history happens in the commonly used metaphorical sense, and if there's one thing that history has shown us, one of the worst times to live in on a personal level is when history is being made in such a way.

Sometimes it can be good, to some extent. Most of the times it's some equivalent to the Black Plague or Hundred Year War, and most sane people don't really want anything to do with that. Is why wishing it on someone is a curse.

Me, I would have liked little more than to have lived in nice, boring times. It's a lot easier to live an interesting life without looming economic disasters and whatnot.

Wikileaks might be releasing some interesting stuff soon.

For those of you who don't like links or reading, the DNC was hacked (for sure) and a hacktivist gave some stuff that makes the DNC look pretty shifty over to Wikileaks (for probably).  While we won't know for sure if that last bit is true until wikileaks does or doesn't release the files, the hacker released a smaller selection of the files including this gem:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Most relevant bit near the bottom.  Bear in mind, this document was supposedly taken from the DNC, not Hillary.

Ironically through one of the tactics mentioned in the memo.  Just frame unexceptional events the right way.

It's really not surprising.  Bernie Sanders was in almost every respect a dark horse candidate: a socialist, an independent (albeit one that has caucused with the Democrats - he did not formally join the Democratic Party until November 2015), and one with no past reputation for seeking presidential office beyond a bit of talk here and there, in a city where talk is cheap.  The most relevant part of that memo is not the end, but the start, to wit the date of May 26, 2015.  The popular impetus behind Sanders' election bid was not apparent until June; it was not clear he was more than another Dean or Perot until even later.  The reason this is relevant is because, at the time this was made, the DNC has precisely one candidate of merit as far as anyone knew: Hillary Clinton.  The only person that might have challenged her broad political base of support was Biden, coming off his second term as Vice President, but at this point, it was not even clear if he would choose to run.  At this point, the idea that Hillary would be the Democratic candidate was, though I'm loathe to use the term, "common knowledge:" one that generally lead to strong opinions on either side, perhaps, but the idea itself was not seriously challenged.  As such, the DNC, with precisely one candidate in their party likely to win, decided to plan accordingly in order to put the Republican candidates on the defensive from the get-go.  I hesitate to say it, but I'm not sure how shifty this is.

Reminds me of when a friend of mine recently, when explaining why HRC is the devil, delivered what he seemed to consider a stunning revelation:  The DNC wanted Hillary to win!!

Uh, yeah...  The party leadership had opinions, and guided party resources...  That's what leaders do, and there was still a primary election...

Bill Clinton entering that polling station, on the other hand, that actually seems quite illegal and screwy.
