So you are saying that the tax that is specifically supposed to fall mostly on the rich mostly falls on the rich?

In other news, most payroll taxes are paid by people with jobs.  Most excise taxes are paid by people who consume taxed items.  Most capital gains taxes are paid by people with financial assets.

I'm scared about politics these days. The current divisive politics is going to end up wracking hell upon us all in the coming years, and I'm not quite sure what one can do about it. Everything sort of swings back and forth like a pendulum. Acceptance, division, acceptance, division.

I fear we're on the division backswing. And as a introvert, that is beginning to hit me as fucking existentially terrifying.

I'm not sure when that pendulum began to start swinging back. It could been 2001, but it was probably further back yet. But nowadays, I don't think people on either side of the aisle are anywhere near accepting as they used to be of different thoughts, ideas, and virtues different from their own. We're quick to blame others for their mistakes while all the while forgetting that sometimes bad things just happen. Blame comes quicker than the solution, hatred and the fangs first before the help.

I'm starting to lose heart about this whole democracy thing, but really it might be more of a people thing too. Because, like it or not, a system can be blamed, but really it's the people behind it who are also responsible for needing to change it.

We are responsible for this. Not as one, not as two, but as many complicit in change that may or not be the path that we want to see before us.

BLEARGH. Rant over. Ish. Nothing is really over, since these worries are going to likely continue whether I post or not. But getting the thought out is still important too.

Let us just take a moment to admire how far these goalposts have moved.

I believe that those most able to bear the burden should bear most of the burden. However, people that I've asked, of all income levels, have this bizarre idea that "higher wage = higher tax" is just punishing people for financial success.
