I mean yeah. A party is about being a group of people with similar ideas. Why should people who are not part of the party be able to vote for who candidacies for the party?
Because they have similar ideas?
Then why don't they join the party?

Maybe they want to have a choice?

Yeah, it's not like the barrier to become a registered democrat is very high. I'm a green party member. I pay my fee. I get to vote in the leadership of the party, the platform and the composition of the various electoral lists. I'd be pretty upset if some random socialist came in and wanted to vote on who our candidates are going to be.

It doesn't seem extravagant to ask you to register as a democrat if you want to vote for the democrat candidates.

It varies from state to state though, some have it really easy like New Hampshire and others have it difficult like New York.

They do have a choice.  They either register with the party or they dont vote in closed primaries.

Does it cost money to register with a party? And can you be registered with multiple parties?

If you mail your registration yourself it costs a postage stamp.  If you dont mail it yourself it costs nothing.  You can not register with multiple parties.  Nearly all the states require you register or mail in your registration at least several days before the primary.

Well, here in California, the Republican primary (and a few other minor parties) is closed while the Democrat one (plus a few other minor parties) is open.

Good to know, thanks. The first is good I think, it helps prevent impoverished groups not getting an equal say. The second I'm not entirely sure if I'm a big fan: if you have more than 1 party you identify with and would like to be part of deciding which candidates get the best shot, you can't, you can only choose one (the one who you agree with most presumably). Though I guess having to make tough choices when there's multiple candidates with views you can agree with is kind of systemic to representative democracy.

Also yeah, considering the person in question is floridian, yes, the florida primaries are closed. So, y'know, may have influenced the critter, and no, she almost certainly won't lose her seat for that statement. Maybe some other reason, but there's no camel's back to break regarding the florida democratic party insofar as open primaries go, heh.

Closed vs open is one thing, but only being able to vote in one primary at a time is rather important.  Otherwise bad-faith votes would be overwhelming.  As is, if you want to screw with another party's primary, you need people to at least give up the primary vote they probably care more about.

I don't believe parties have any moral obligation to open their primaries to independents, but it can be beneficial to them.  I would guess that an independent is more likely to support the party in the general election if they're allowed to participate in the primary.  There are downsides too though, which explains why the parties decide it on a per-state basis.  It's a reasonable calculation.

So, in North Carolina they've started to eject women who don't have ID and who don't look feminine enough from bathrooms. Given that these new bathroom laws are an official standard policy of the Republican party platform going into this election, please look forward to many more of these Tales Of Freedom (TM) come this November when they get into office.

Link/screenshot or it never happened, AKA, bleeping seriously?

And I guess Bathroom Police is now an official thing in NC...... Plus the law of unintended consequences has evidently firmly taken root.

Wonder if the same thing is happening for guys as well?

Also, what defines 'not feminine enough'?

I googled it, there's video of cops evicting a lesbian from a bathroom for not having ID. Probably not the only incident, but it's one where it was filmed on someone's phone and uploaded.
Also, what defines 'not feminine enough'?
Whatever the cop doesn't like the look of. Basically it's carte blanc to demand ID of women who are trying to take a piss. In other words, this is eminently exploitable for cops to harass anyone they don't like.

I found this Snopes article on the news post I found as I was trying to dig further into it.

Also, googling says they're actually having trouble figuring out how to enforce this new set of laws. So, congrats, we're still in the baby steps of this thing that no one knows how to deal with. This thing that is being proposed in red states across America.

Don't know where the cop is located, but he asks for ID and kicks the woman out for not providing it. So pretty certain it's one of the states with Bathroom ID laws.

Could have dug further because the story is a questionable one and seems to not actually have had anything to do with the law itself.

The story itself has holes in it though, big ones.
