Yeah, I'm convinced that he'll just make the US go default the first chance he gets and then bask in the hatred lobbed at him.

Anyway, an interesting thing this morning, the Trump vs Clinton head to head shows a tie, but then again, theres a pretty big percent, 16% of the total, that would vote for some other candidate. Not neccesarily unified under a single candidate.

Where the heck is a great third party candidate this year?.....

'Be Prepared' could practically be the theme song for Trump's campaign.

I mean:
1) Promises of economic benefit
2) In return for joining fascism
3) Undisguised contempt for everyone, even supposed allies
4) Not bothering to pretend this is anything other than a power grab
5) Alternating threats and promises (you won't get a sniff without me, etc).

Google seems to suggest it's less a matter of insanity and more a matter of th'fact that when the saying was coined the natives leaving their reservation was literally illegal, at least insofar as origins go. The actual meaning/use is a bit different, and to an extent only tangentially related to insanity; more about disruption and doing things against a particular group the individual is nominally part of's (the party/polity, in terms of politics) interests. It rarely is used to actually imply that the person being labeled such is of any particular native descent.

E: Mind you, given the origin, it is something of a mistake to use it, but it's also something that could very easily slip in just because it's part of the person's normal dialect. Which it kinda' is for at least some parts of the country.

My fear that he's actually savvy enough to come up with manipulative ideas like that on his own. I mean, nobody likely to be convinced by that sort of logic would ever vote Trump when the Rod Ham is in the running, but it's frightening that he has enough awareness to try. I would honestly like to see him try running as an independent just because of how much he fucks with the traditional party lines on social and economic policy in this country. God forbid he ever gets into public office, but disruption of the typical partisan alignments might actually shake some people into a slight degree of self-awareness.

He fucking hates immigrants but he doesn't LGBTQ-bash and (claims) to not be sexist (but then turns around and says shit along the lines of "You haven't seen sexy until you've seen my daughter. She's like the Trump Steak of attractiveness."). He wants to shut down U.S. military involvement in the world and give the two-finger salute to all the assholes profiteering off of free trade policies, but he's the ultimate culmination of everything that's wrong with capitalism and boorishness. He's not the non-partisan candidate we need right now, but he's the one we deserve.

I don't even know what to think any more.

Anywhere from nothing to quite a bit, depending on the context.

What I was getting at is that he's a Republican candidate opposed to free trade. It's next to unthinkable in the contemporary U.S. for any serious candidate to advocate for strongly protectionist trade policy, never mind someone on the Right. Remember, Obama was in bed with NAFTA and the bailouts, and he was the socialist apocalypse antiChrist as far as a lot of people were concerned. Oh, there's plenty of rhetoric about protecting 'Murrican jorbs, but they keep right on letting all of our industry be outsourced to places where labor is literally dirt-cheap. (Yes, literally, as in it costs about as much to hire people to make shit as it does to buy dirt). That, the occasional bizarre spurt of social progressiveness, and the opposition to military force projection basically makes Trump the most left-wing Republican presidential candidate we've seen in years.

Protectionism exists in a very hypothetical sense.  That means that people can be against it's problems without talking about it's benefits.  To a lesser extent the opposite of true but because free trade is the status quo the status quo is more defined.
