It took one of my great-grandfathers 30+ years of applying to get his citizenship.

Probably because he was waiting in line behind my great grandfather, who moved to this great country of ours to escape a felony warrant.  Only suckers came in at Ellis Island when the Canadian border was unguarded.

Actually, my Volga German forebears didn't come in through Ellis Island. None of our family did. Half went through Philadelphia and half through Baltimore.
The other side of the family came over when it was still the Province of Carolina. AND THEY NEVER LEFT. I mean, damn....pretty much 400 years on the same freakin' chunk of land. I wonder if anyone's ever used a situation like that to contest Federal jurisdiction? "Look, we were here before there even was a United States, so get off mah lawn, Uncle Sam!"

Haven't heard of Native Americans? It went poorly.

This makes it sound like the debate was/is worth watching. Was it as entertaining as it sounds?

There's genetic evidence that at least part of my family stayed in pretty much the same spot for about 6.000 years. Silly Americans and their misconceptions of 'a long time'...

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

It's certainly impressive that his records/instruments are precise enough to report three decimal places though. I guess that's the power of German engineering.

Yeah, German clocks are accurate down to 4 hours increments.

If the Germans have shown us anything, it's that they're very good at keeping meticulous records of large numbers of people and tracking their movements. Or lack thereof.

My grandpa came here as a relatively high-level defector. The FBI wanted him gone so much. I still have a copy of the letter they sent to kick him out: "There is no appeal to this decision, signed J. Edgar Hoover".

Fortunately they were wrong about the lack of appeal, and there were other people in the government who wanted him to stay.

I think last night would have gone by better without podiums. Then Rubio and Cruz could just swing their Cuban street baseball bats directly at Trump's balls.

Well, when you have big steel balls, there's always the danger of them becoming magnetized and attracting large metal objects.

When you start saying things like "I'm being audited because I'm a strong Christian" (said by Trump in his post-debate interview), you deserve a couple of love taps to the nuts.
