Just read the brokered convention thing on FiveThirtyEight, and goddamn this is exactly what is required- Cruz and Trump holding the top with Rubio trailing but just barely.

I am so goddamn happy right now with this outcome.

Except we're just beginning and that pattern may or may not hold.

Interesting bit will be if Sanders and Clinton end in a statistical tie (or a slight Sanders win), but because of the weird-ass way the Dems allocate delegates and superdelegates, Clinton comes out ahead. Cue howls of outrage and a fired-up activist base for Sanders. Which would also be ironic, considering the howls of outrage from the Clinton camp in 2008 when they won in some states like Michigan that had been penalized delegates, and her supporters bitched about the DNC's arcane rules.

Clinton lead back to 0.4% (or 2/3 of an O'Malley) with 90% reporting.

Why are superdelegates even a thing?

reddit is going to lose its mind
Link?  Or you just mean in general.

And in general, why so much hoo-ha-ha over the Iowa caucus?
They're just a state that decided to hold its not-primaries super early, right?
which apparently fucking works

*shrug* Only the Democrats have them apparently for some reason.

Apparently Trump has given his concession speech, and did not in fact tell Iowa to go fuck itself.

I imagine it's so superdeligates can "cancel out" a split popular vote with the "establishment" vote.

I wonder why the republicans don't have that thing? Though they'd probably scatter to various establishment candidates rather than coalesce around a single one.

Yeah, superdelegates are the party machinery's way of remaining the kingmakers in a tight situation. GOP deserves credit for not retaining that vestige of the olden days.

Jim Gilmore is within 100 votes of "Other".

Unless "buy a farm" is a euphemism for something.

Probably because it goes against the whole "one man one vote" thingy. I know that the United states was built to not have that be the case, but for the primaries at least, only people who actually care about politics are going to vote, so having people like that would just screw with everything.

I'm surprised that he even got any votes at all. Wonder how many of those are protest votes rather than actual supporters.

I wonder how O'Malley's delegates will be split up.
Cut down the middle with a sword, according to Solomonic law. Only the candidate who claims they don't want them will be worthy of them.
