There's a drug war that has imprisoned millions but a windmill killed an eagle somewhere so those things are basically a wash.

Smug is a stretch for describing that post, self righteous would be more accurate, and I think borrowing some words from Leonard Cohen would be best, "I love the country but I can't stend the scene. And I'm neither left not right. I'm just staying home tonight, getting lost in that hopeless little screen."

But y'know, feel free to draw up your long list of right side problems and your tiny list of left side ones. That's totally the point of the post.



It's a Christmas tradition mostly for that last line, else it'd be for New Years to match thematically. World's still iffy. Country's still iffy. Freedom's still trying to hang on. Politicians still shit. If it's fixing things, system's grinding away mighty slowly.

Yes, anyone who expresses a point of view that is not standard left or right party politics is just trying to be different for the sake of feeling smug, and pointing out examples to make the case (recklessly and lazily) that society is structured to reinforce privilege at the expense of the unprivileged is really nothing but bitching and moaning.

A statement I would agree with.  I just wouldn't agree with the bullshit "oh but the left doesn't care about the eagles!"  When people express admiration for intellectually lazy arguments that just blur a bunch of shit together and think they are clever, I call them out on it.  It's what I do.
