But I figured that you guys should see where the general thoughts of the more conservative subset of the population are at.
Fair enough. Do keep posting stuff like that, if it doesn't get to be too much trouble to be swarmed with corrections and stuff; we don't need to become an echo chamber, and it's probably good to force us to think about why we have the beliefs we do regardless.

“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/plum-line/wp/2015/11/09/ben-carson-may-have-made-up-parts-of-yale-hoax-story-but-it-might-still-be-true-anyway/

It looks like Carson is taking vague stories he recalls and recasting himself as the star. The evidence that Carson's own team have provided that it really happened, don't make it sound like it happened to him. So the guys probably a narcissist. This is the sort of lie that people with NPD tend to do. They can't let a good story go, but they have to cast themselves as either the story's hero, or the story's victim, depending on what type of story it is.

But his version of the anecdote doesn't even make sense. How does sticking the test out make you "honest". if they pulled unfair stuff like that, e.g. they have a regular exam, claimed to have lost it, then made everyone sit an exam that had material nobody had studied for, then basically they've screwed over the entire class. Carson said he prayed to God to get the right answers. So we have his account that he used supernatural forces to benefit just himself in a time when the entire group was faced with an unfair situation. That's how an honest christian acts, apparently. So in the end you'd have Carson, the only person who passed due to supernatural aid, upholding the test as valid and chastizing the rest of the class for not being pious enough to deserve to pass, I guess.

Half of illegal immigrants in America are paying income tax. I'm not sure exactly how it's done, but it seems easier than getting benefits. The government is apparently a lot less picky when you're giving them money. Also, even if you're getting paid under the table, you're paying taxes to spend your money.

Social security in particular receives $12 billion a year from illegal immigrants. This is actually significantly helping to keep social security going.

Well, think of it this way- there is a substantial number of illegal immigrants that are just Canadian workers who overstayed their visas.

Illegals and refugees are often kicked around for political football, and they'll only focus on the ones that they get some sort of political mileage from.

e.g. in Australia, over 95% of illegal immigrants in Australia come on planes and were visa overstayers. if you overstay your visa, you could just claim asylum then go about your business for a fucking long time while they process your and then realize you're bullshitting. Happens quite a bit apparently. But if you come to australia on a leaky fishing boat, they treat you like a terrorist (because of course, terrorists would get on leaky fishing boats and wouldn't have the resources to book a plane flight), lock you and your kids in concentration camps, including pregnant women and their babies. All basically because it gets votes for the conservatives. And the boat people  have an exceptionally high rate of being determined to be actual refugees unlike the people who come on planes. Here's the breakdown of illegals in Australia. Funnily enough NONE of the countries on this list are places the Australian media will tell you are a problem for illegals. So, basically take anything people tell you about illegal immigrants with a grain of salt unless you see the data yourself.

Political reaction to undocumented immigration is acually ridiculous but it makes sense.

If the United States treated undocumented immigrants the same as regular citizens, then they would have to have restroom access and get minimum wage while working. Something they don't have right now.

Basically there is a preference for slavery.

What we need to do is just automatically grant citizenship to anybody who's been here for more than ten years without comitting either a violent crime or a white collar business crime (vice crimes such as prostitution or dealig heroin would be overlooked, as would intellectual property infringement)

Watching the debate right now. Gotta love the logic: any problem = FIX IT WITH LOWER TAXES no matter how silly that is.

Santorum is mentioning that there are 250,000 welder jobs they can't find people for, and these are GOOD paying jobs, 50-70K because they're in demand. His "fix" is to lower the corporate tax rate. But the logic fail here ... if you're offering that much pay for a blue-collar skill, and you can't get the trained people, corporate taxes are not the bottleneck. They already want to hire the people, they don't need to be further incentivize through tax cuts. Tax cuts will only increase demand for that labour, and see the shortages get worse. Because the trained people to do those 250,000 jobs clearly don't exist. Increasing demand for something that's in shortage doesn't make any sense! You increase supply, i.e. train people!

GOP Debate Drinking Game:

1. Anytime a candidate bashes Obama, take a shot.
2. Anytime a candidate bashes Hillary Clinton, take a shot.
3. Anytime the bash has nothing to do with the topic at hand, make it a double.
4. Anytime the candidate bashes the media for asking the question in the first place, take a shot.
5. Anytime the candidate ignores the question altogether and just talks about whatever the fuck they want, take a shot.

I'll be curious to see tomorrow's death toll.
