Yeah I'm maybe weird on this because I'd rather have porn, booze, and maybe cigarettes legal to buy at all ages (and thus freed from a lot of social allure), so it's not really me treating video games as a Sacred Exception. Kind of a weird issue, though, because like you say it's not exactly a big deal and it's been rendered moot by history, but it's something people care about a lot and which I'm therefore forced to have an opinion on. Dunno why I'm even still talking about it.

Of course, I there's the perspective to consider of parents who are overburdened by modern expectations of how many hours you're supposed to work and so on, which creates a situation where parents kind of need all the help they can get because "better parenting" flat-out is not possible with the time and energy constraints that have to be operated under. Generally, they're already at optimal levels of involvement for the resources that are available. So maybe it's more complicated than I gave it credit for. Sorry bout that.

Doubt it. I'm not saying that's a well-reasoned opinion with lots of research, it's just the sort of thing I'd do if I were in a position where I needed to meddle in things without understanding them. Could well be a very bad idea, that's just my reasoning for it.

You seem to be forgetting that there was a time it was like that, and it ended with ~80% of Sweden being alcoholics.
