... well, none of the politicians, anyway. The sort of hateful rhetoric that's largely propagated by that general bundle of our political system is almost definitely getting people killed.

Case in point, we're already up about 150% on murdered transgendered folks compared to the entirety of last year, apparently, and we've still got a good few months to go. To the extent there's something fair about that, it's along the lines of 17 vs 12, iirc, but that still means the violent death rate per month has something like doubled. Maybe it's coincidental, but it'll be interesting to see if the rate drops back down after the campaigning cools off again.

Be interesting to see if the messages being spewed around are having an effect on things, really. Anyone want to take a bet that hate crimes have gone up since the campaigning started? There some place that's tracking that kind of information?

And that is in fact the insane troll logic at work in many corners of the Net right now. Anyone who criticizes The Donald is either an America-hating liberal socialist fag, or worse a cuckservative Quisling worried about what a bunch of namby-pamby liberals are gonna call them. Didn't you know? There's a massive conspiracy between the Democrats, the RNC, Rupert Murdoch, Mexico, the NWO Jew bankers and the LGBT Mafia to take down Trump because he's the only thing standing between them and their goal of making America unlivable for straight, white, true conservative Christian males. The only thing I haven't seen uttered yet is "wake up sheeple", but the season is still young.

Thankfully, as a bi liberal non-Christian male, I get free admission to the Conspiracy's happy hour parties, so I'm cool with it.

Well, to be fair everyone from the GOP to liberals are currently bashing Trump. The way some of the questions at the debate were framed to make him look bad would be disgraceful if he was a real candidate.

The fact that the ground state of Trump is "raging douchenozzle" is not the fault of those who point out this fact.

So, what's up in your Congress? I'm still amazed that you guys effectively stop caring about what your government is doing two years out of four in favor of watching the horserace to see who will decide what the country will do next.

I'm pretty sure that Congress is pretty much dividing it's attention between the horse race and the deal with Iran. A few key Democratic senators have recently come out against it, as I recall, but the source I got that from has an interest in overstating opposition to the thing.

Yeah, just as the ground state for Trump is douchenozzle, the ground state for Congress is null.

I kinda forget we have a Congress at times, because most impact in the last couple of years has come either from executive orders, Supreme Court decisions, or state governments. They've gridlocked themselves into irrelevancy in some ways. Which is not a good thing, I'm not a fan of the "government by executive order" thing myself -- not because "OMG OBAMA = HITLER" -- but because executive orders have no staying power. They can easily be undone by the next President. Congressional action is far more permanent and more difficult to repeal.

Yeah but when unelected bureaucrats set rules, they are gonna stick around until we get republicans signing up to work for the EPA.

Not always. The EPA being a great example. Republican administrations appoint Republican directors, which then move to undo a great deal of regulation in place from previous administrations. Likewise, Democratic administrations appoint Democratic bureaucrats who push Democratic agendas. Agency regulations aren't that much more stable than executive orders, they just take longer to change.

And because there's no voting bloc to worry about, they don't even need to convince anyone, the electorate or the legislature. And Congress can pass laws to override, limit or repeal agency regulations.
