FYI -- Texas is not part of the South. Texas is Texas. Even during the Civil War, Texas wasn't exactly welcomed with open arms by the rest of the Confederacy.

Likewise, Florida is kind of its own animal. (A cross between an alligator and a Spanish-speaking armadillo, I believe).

And yes, I'll readily admit that we got a lot of dumbass loudmouths in this part of the country that make me cringe every time they open their possum-hole. But they're still very much in the minority compared to Southerners as a whole.

Generally the Californians I've met just talk about how wonderful life is over there. Best weather, best tech, best hype, best cultural features, best everything.

Except for the crime, the pollution, the traffic, the over population, the illegal immigration, the drugs, the pillaging of all water sources to keep people's lawns in a desert green and to keep agriculture pumping out vegetables and fruits. Oh and how incredibly shallow and fake a lot of people can be.

New Yorkers will also run out to tell you that New York is #1. But they don't seem to have a problem acknowledging how much of a shit hole the Big Apple can be too.

And I'll extoll the virtues of the South, while fully admitting we got a lot of problems too. A LOT.
We avoid some of the major urban problems by virtue that we don't have major cities except Atlanta, Charlotte and Nashville.
(And again, I don't count Texas or Florida.)

I've always liked the South in terms of its geography. Mountainous, forested, hot, humid. It is IMO the best place to go get a little lost in the US. (Other than, you know, Deliverance.)

But the poverty and racism has never sat well with me. I used to say "love the place, hate the people" but that's not really fair to the majority of southerns who are polite, friendly, hospitable and genteel. They just never seem to be the majority when I'm actually down there.

Other representations of the swastika don't contain those traits.
