Yeah, that's a fair point. Consider my grudging respect for Nixon withdrawn.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Perhaps this is telling-- But to me, this sounds just like any other politician. This kind of sickening bullshit is happening right now, we just dont get told about it. Why do you think the world's leaders were shitting bricks when the Manning cables were dumped?

I would rather vote a baboon into office. Or perhaps an AI, should one ever get built that is up to the task.

Harding gets a bit of a worse rap than he deserves, really. His administration was incredibly corrupt, but in terms of actual policy he was fairly successful between the Washington Naval Conference and the quick end to the 1920-21 Depression. If he (or Coolidge) was President when the Great Depression hit, it may very well have been just as irrelevant in the long run.
Ah yes, the Washington Naval Conference -- the arms race limitation that pretty much everyone ignored within 10-15 years anyways. And this was successful how, exactly?

As for Bush I, I've long said that one of the biggest achievements of Bush II was making his father look pretty damn competent. His Iraq war only took a couple of months, with more casualties from friendly fire than enemy action.

FYI, as part of Trump's announcement speech, he said he would be "the greatest jobs President God ever created".  ::)

I could actually see him having some kind of massive work program to build a pyramid in Las Vegas to house his body when he ascends to become Trump-Ra. Complete with neon lighting, and a thousand scantily-clad showgirls will be buried with him.

Reckon it is pretty telling that every president after has been afraid to do the same as Johnson.  Even if the information only gets unsealed years after their death.

Theres already one in Las Vegas.

Word for word? I didn't even watch his speech. Sort of sounds like he accidentially misordered the sentence. If he actually said that and meant that, then that sounds just weird.

Also, one of the commentators said the other day that when Trump was asked a question about reducing the debt (not sure when the question was asked), his response was "I'll make the United States even richer!" Nice non-answer.... -.-  That kind of thing definetly won't fly during the debates.

Anyhow, back in 2008 or 2012, when he decided to run, I initially thought that maybe he had some good ideas (and I was giving him a chance at the very least), but he quickly came off as a jerk.

Actually, it's not a bad answer. There is a reason we measure debt as a percentage of GDP. If you manage to grow the economy a lot, the ratio of debt to GDP will go down.

Ok, it's not a realistic answer, but it's a real one. Plus, no one gives a realistic answer, because raising taxes is taboo and the minute you talk about closing a specific loophole or program, special interests are going to jump on you like a blind Dwarf playing with your underwears.

... As one of the forums resident Republicans, I am watching the Primaries evolve with... I don't know how I feel. Trump interests me in that he seems to have the confidence and gusto that other politicians seem to lack. He's about as graceless as a rock, but at this point the rock is looking more appealing than the alternatives.

Regardless, I am going to need to sit down and do research. But for now, hold onto your socks gentlemen. We're in for a wild ride.

I think the sentence becomes clearer if you insert an implied [that] in between President and God. I see now why most transcriptions I've seen didn't capitalize President...it does kind of make it look like he's saying God is President. And since Morgan Freeman isn't running, that isn't applicable.  :P

@Sheb: The problem is that for people like Trump, making the country richer means "making guys like me richer". Not the average American. Trump also has a history of some indelicate remarks.

Quote from: Wikipedia
A 1991 book, Trumped!!, by John R. O'Donnell, former president of Trump Plaza Hotel & Casino, claimed that Trump once said in reference to a black accountant at Trump Plaza: "laziness is a trait in blacks." O'Donnell claimed he told him: "Black guys counting my money! I hate it. The only kind of people I want counting my money are short guys that wear yarmulkes every day." Trump responded that O'Donnell was a disgruntled employee.

In his speech, he also claimed that Mexico is not an ally, and that they send their criminals and rapists here. And that he planned to build a wall on the southern border and have Mexico pay for it. So I think we can see he's gonna pander to the same xenophobes and racists that formed the core of the birther movement.

He also said that "No one would be tougher on ISIS than Trump." Yes, he pulled a Bob Dole and referred to himself in the third person.

In his defense, he also called for major investment in infrastructure. So there's that. But overall, Trump promises to be a great "crazy rich guy" sideshow, a la Herman Cain.

We're all forgetting the important part here. The real question is, which candidate is most likely to usher in the cyberpunk dystopia?

Now I know, I know, you're going to say all of them because muh corporate donations, but we need to look deeper than that. There merely being an industrial supplementation of democracy and liberty isn't enough to be cyberpunk, we also need the world to go to shit hard and fast enough that you can have the punk in the societal rifts that are beyond control.

I say that Trump is the man for this, as his claim to fame is going so badly into debt that he rode the Sunk Cost Fallacy all the way to being rich and owning banks. Just imagine that in the White House!
