Hmm. Looks like King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia has died. Successor is Crown Prince (now King) Salman, the late king's half-brother.

Be interesting to see how that shakes out, especially with the little brouhaha over Netanyahu's visit and Obama declining to meet with him.

Does primogeniture not apply? I suppose it gets difficult when your king has more than one wife...it noted that Abdullah had named Salman Crown Prince a couple years ago, but of course if Salman has Alzheimer's some power behind the throne will choose the successor.

Well, the Allegiance Council choose the Heir. So they have tons of family intrigue. I guess Muqrin's sons will have an edge as he'll be the last King among the sons of Saud.

An allegience council sounds like a terrible idea. Bickering is bad enough when there are set rules for who gets to succeed the king, like in European monarchies; having, well...

Yeah, that's what I meant by "interesting". It has been the rule until know that each brother would be king in turn, but as soon as this generation is over (And the youngest is currently 70) it's more or less a free-for-all.

As douchey as the current U. S. candidates seem to be, I'm pretty sure its still a step up from having inbred aristocrats duking it out for the nice chair. Next time the government sticks its foot down its esophagus, remember that~! At least, I THINK this is better. Right? Right? Left?
