He's a subhuman scumbag who can only win by accruing the votes of other scumbags.
Just like everyone else you disagree with, right?
This hysteria surrounding Trump reminds me very much of the right's hysteria surrounding Obama during the '08 general, and it's just as ridiculous.
The difference is that the right's hatred of Obama was a narrative they crafted from their own crazy beliefs. (Socialism, Rampant Islamization of America, etc...)
With Trump at least we can point to the horrible things he's actually said and his total lack of giving a shit about how things have generally worked before, his total lack of experience as a leader and all the evidence that he cares as much about the average person as his toenail clippings.
And that's honestly why people are voting for him. He's telling everyone to fuck off and the right's voter base, who feels totally disenfranchised from the last 8 years of Republican leadership (even the Tea Party candidates), and let down by their inability to "stop Obama" is eating it up. Every Trump voter I've spoken to has said they don't care what he actually will do, they just want to see him wreck everything.
So no, I disagree. They are not 1:1. One man got demonized by the right because the right is terrified of black people and they attached every negative thing they could think of his to presidency. The other man is getting demonized because the things he says are worth demonization, and he's completely unrecalcitrant about any of it. The "ignorance is a virtue" attitude, the weird misogyny he's got going on, the racism and just the general nastiness of his rhetoric.
Case in point: I was just on a work trip and sitting around listening to good ol' boys talk about the upcoming election. You know what their main concern was?
"Man, Obama has his claws so deep into America now I'm afraid we can't get them out. Hilary will just play right into his pocket."
The man is about to leave office and die-hard Republicans
still think he's going to be pulling the strings for the next 4 years. They're so convinced he's the Great Satan or the Antichrist from the Book of Revelations that they will be referencing his impact, real or imagined, on American life for the next 20 years. Where the Ghost of Reagan is the thing conservatives conjure up to remind themselves of the good old days and make themselves feel better, the Ghost of Obama is what they'll be conjuring when they want to blame someone other than themselves for where the country is.
