What would the name be for some sort of government which chooses candidates based only on which person a group or singular entity likes the most? Illumaonarchy?

Actually the Roman republic kinda fits that definition, though the "group" was the fairly large caste of land owning citizens IIRC.
You might be looking for "oligarchy".
I considered "plutocracy", but that's specifically rule by the rich.

If one person or a set group is deciding on all political appointments, that's just despotism. Autocracy and oligarchy are listed as sub-types.

Well, for what it's worth, he's plainly on record as scamming, lying about it, getting told by the court to stop, getting sued for it, and then lying about the lawsuits during primary election debates. He also grossly abuses imminent domain in what cannot reasonably be called capitalism, nor socialism/redistrubution of wealth, but self-motivated theft. Not to mention to recent stuff about wanting to weaken rights of free speech against libel law and consolidate more power to the executive branch, if he were elected. He also dodges every attempt to get him to say what his actual intended policies are to meet his (vague) goals for the nation, except that he claims he wants to build a wall to keep out illegal immigrants he has hired and (although I can't seem to find the citation now) claimed he could save more money on health care than was currently being spent on healthcare, total.

He's unprincipled and self-serving. I can really see no counter-argument, he has done things that only a pathologically greedy person would ever do.

I must guess that people voting for him must be extremely ignorant, plugging their ears when they hear these things, or be willing to overlook these facts because he panders vaguely to their ideals of kicking immigrants out, or just being as anti-liberal as possible, or whatever.

I mean I suppose you could stretch the definition of "reasonable" to include anything you want.  But the way I would describe it is "The US didn't mind stirring violent situations to make sure the psychopaths on our side came out on top."
