Honestly, I have no idea why I settled on Smashmouth, but they seemed suitable.

Debate will be Trump as the Republican nominee, Sanders as Democratic, with Clinton there as part of a surprise independent run.

Theres another SC poll, though this one is apparently done by the SC House Republican Caucaus and while I'd be wary of a poll done directly from politicians, I'd take this with a mountain of salt because there is a lack of actual data plus the fact that apparently over half of the respondents are age 65+. A quick search for SC demographics by age shows that it simply isn't accurate for SC, retirees nonwithstanding. To their credit, they did do an age group breakdown though. Also, the poll results itself looks similar to the one done by Augusta.

I wonder when one of the more professional pollsters will release theirs....

It's really weird.

The republican poll shows Trump at 35% compared to 16 for Cruz and 13 for Rubio.  I doubt they are interested in inflating Trump's numbers so I'm inclined to believe this even if it is a partisan poll.  South Carolina rules seem to be winner takes most with congressional district winners taking the rest.  That probably means Trump is going to win 80% or so if these numbers are legit.  I think the state republicans are really hoping this convinces one of the republicans to drop out and let a consolidation happen.

Supreme Court justice Scalia died this morning.

Sad... (well, only a little)

I wonder if they'll leave the replacement nomination to Obama or whoever the next president is. Obviously the republican senate and congress will fight tooth and nail to not have the replacement appointed by Obama. Though an opening due to a death would be more urgent than an impending retirement.

Well, on the one hand I'm not exactly happy that a person has died. There are many people who are worse off for it, and the loss of any person is still a loss. On the other hand, if this is what it was going to take to get him off the bench, then I guess this is one of those "had to die for the good of everyone else" scenarios. Because this is an unambiguous improvement to the quality of jurisprudence in the United States.

“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Given that there's still 10.5 months until any new presidency, Obama is going to need to nominate someone. And then Congress will do their damnedest to drag out confirmation through the election, in the hopes of a Republican win. Fun, fun! At least it'll inject some new interest into this never-ending slog of an election. Condolences to his family, or pod-siblings, or similar.

I suppose it would be bad karma to be glad a person (and I use that term lightly) is dead, but I'm certainly glad he's off the SCOTUS, and it couldn't have come at a better time. No 2000 Mk.2: Electoral Boogaloo.

Because this is an unambiguous improvement to the quality of jurisprudence in the United States.
Or at least possibility for improvement.

On the other hand, odds are fairly good we won't find out until 2017, soo...

I guess the 4/4 split instead of 5/4 for the rest of the year'll probably be interesting, though, and an improvement at least for that period.

Now the question is, who does Obama nominate? Not sure if there's a short list of possibles out there somewhere, but I'm personally hoping he just says 'fuck it' and puts up Elizabeth Warren.
