Each candidate is compared to each other candidate.  I did an update with the scoring that can be done so far.

I'll use my Rand Paul pick as an example of how the scoring works since we now have enough information to judge me on that one.  My rankings were:

13) Graham  (is going to drop out on stage tonight) (correct)
12) Pataki  "Him?" (correct)
11) Paul  (has better things to do) (2 days)
10) Kasich  (how is he still on the main stage?  he appears to be running for candidacy of a different party)
9) Huckabee  (enjoying his holiday but probably wants to get back on TV) (missed)
8) Fiorina  "Her?"
7) Christie  "everyone waiting around for the swearing, this is the part that happens."
6) Carson  "so are you saying New Hamshire doesn't like the bible stuff?  what are they muslim?"
5) Bush  "what do you mean I lost New Hamshire?"
4) Santorum  "to be honest I forgot I was running too" (missed)
3) Cruz  "who do I blame for this?"
2) Trump  "What do I name my new political party?"
1) Rubio  "I would like to introduce the future vice president of the united states, Nikki Haley"

So I said that Paul would drop out after Graham and Pataki but before everyone else.  I was right that he dropped out after Graham and Pataki.  I was wrong in saying he would outlast Huckabee.  So now I am scored based on how wrong I was, Huckabee dropped two days before Paul so my prediction that Paul outlasts everyone else was wrong by two days.

Meanwhile my huckleberry prediction was also wrong but we dont know how wrong it was yet.  I thought huckleberry would outlast Paul which was off by 2 days.  However I also said that huckleberry would outlast Kasich, which was wrong by more then two days (unless he drops out tonight).  So whenever Kasich drops out we will know how badly I missed the mark on my huckleberry prediction.

The problem with your predictions, RedKing, was that you had Graham and Pataki lasting and they dropped out more then a month before the people you thought they would outlast.  So the month of January really hurt your score.  It seems the scoring system is harsh on you if you miss an early dropout.  It will probably be harsh on anyone who misses lategame contenders as well since that's the other place a month could get added to people's tallies.

Okay, so my original assertion was more or less right -- I need Kasich to hang around quite a while to screw you guys over.
EDIT: And Pataki really didn't hurt me -- I had him as the first guy out, and he was the second. If Fiorina and Christie drop out after NH (as I'm hoping), I can stem the bleeding.

If Kaisich wins the nomination you have a good shot.  ;)

Oh hey there was a poll yesterday that found him at third place in New Hampshire.  What is the portmanteau of Kaisich and momentum?

Could one of the German posters make a pun using the word Kaiser?

Kaiserich momentum? It's the phonetic spelling of the Rhenian pronunciation of 'sort-of-emperor-like-but-not-really'. Yes, we have a word for that.

...

So does English. Might not have the same connotations, but connotations are cultural, not linguistic.

It's even similar in construction! "Emperor-ish."

I'm sure there are other words also that are better suited, but yeah.

Do give a precise distinction between 'connotation' and 'meaning'. 'Kaiserig' and 'emperor-ish' are two rather different things.

English has absorbed schadenfreude and zeitgeist perfectly well, thankyouverymuch. Both of them are even recognized by Chrome's spellcheck.

A word is only useful when it's important enough to be stolen by the English language.

Connotation would be the imagery the word evokes in the cultural context it comes from or is used in. Meaning is what the word literally means.

A poor example, but an example none-the-less: "Queen" means a female monarch, but in British cultural context, it means The Queen, the current.

A better example, though not a word: ''A dark and stormy night" literally means... well, a dark and stormy night, but the cultural connotation is of cliche writing and poor wordsmithing.

So, basically, my point is that English has a word for "kind of an emperor but not really," because adding "ish" to the end of an English word turns it into that kind of, "sort of but not quite," "tentatively" meaning. "Kaiserig" might have different connotations in Germany: A certain time or emperor is brought to mind, or various other ways. I don't know for sure. But the literal meaning of the word is essentially the same.

I'm not saying I'm completely, essentially, or even kind of right. I'm completely basing this off your own definition of the word; if I'm wrong on that, it's your fault. ;P But based on the way you worded your definition of the word, I think I'm not too far off base. And I apologize for the poor explanation of the difference between connotation and meaning. There is a distinction in my head, but it is a very fuzzy distinction, and it's hard to parse properly into words that evoke that distinction.
