My submission, now complete, is more or less the handyman. Fixing things, disposing of burned out lights, checking the air pipes are in order, or that the nav-systems don't have a glitch that will launch us into a nearby moon. Fix things, run thing, argue with people. Pretty much a backup anything, too.
We soooorta have an AI and drones to handle mundane things like that.

Could you re-post/quote it to make it easier to find? Also, what with the AI and automated stuff we'll probably have, someone who's just a handyman/mechanic would be a little redundant. Give him some engineering skill at least, or maybe great understanding of computer science.

Why? I can think of several reasons for them to do that.

Take a look at Orks from Warhammer 40K if you want an idea or four for why~

Hey, even I don't like my race anymore.

I think I want to remake the race.

[Note: you can make a character of someone else's race if you can't think of your own.]
Well, do you have another race idea? If not, I'm sure we can make the one you have work.

Well, let's hear it! Having a character idea to go with it would be good, too.

BTW, thanks for that Tiruin :)

It was like 3 posts above where I said "Done now"

@Kevak: I'm not seeing any description of the AI except for grandiose statements about how pathetically small and unsafe some proposed ship designs were, and how a 'Ceta class AI' would refuse to be installed on one. I'm aware that there's automation on the ship, but as you chanted over the people saying we didn't need a second reactor "Back-ups are vital". Or do you find any situation where the AI/ it's repair bots are compromised, damaged, insane, or dead to be neglible and not requiring any sort of step-in?

From what he's told me, since the ship's systems would serve as the AI's body, its character depends on what the ship ends up being.

Didn't everyone argue for ~50 posts about the ship because some people wanted an exploration ship and some a rust bucket and some a flying garden and some a generational ark?

Yup. I have a base personality since we seem to be leaning towards a science and industry oriented ship, however the finer details are based on what specifically that ship is.
