Well, thanks to you guys being cool and B1, I have it unpacked, but I'm having trouble figuring out how to launch it. I hope it isn't the pure .exe, because my computer reads .exe files as slightly strange text pages.
It's a multiplatform .app.  Are you sure you're using osx at all? :/ The website should have detected you're on osx and served you the installer .dmg which you open and drag-and-drop to the Applications folder. Then just launch it and browse to the .rar file and extract. Or drag-and drop. Or whatever, there are pretty big buttons on the toolbar, one of them a help button to explain how to use it.

I am using windows (xp to be exact) but my problem launching was/is in the launcher it self as per my last post:
my Issue is that part of the gui for me is not showing up for me graphically. but the buttons do appear to be their. it is just that everything above the various setting tabs is blacked out or the images are for some reason not working...
Try turning off whatever styling you have running. The shading on the internet explorer window looks non-standard to me, I guess that could be interfering with the launcher buttons.
[Edit:] I found my crashing problem I had to rename a couple sdls
Uhm, if you mean that you had to rename the SDL.(whatever).dll to launch the game then there's something wrong at your end, that effectively disables dfhack (and half the mod with it), cause Masterwork relies heavy on it. :(

Well, I apparently am getting given the Windows version, making me want a new and not-mac computer even more. :\ Guess I'll just wait a while, maybe get 34.11 Masterwork running for the adventure-mode funzies, though I'll miss jumping. In other news, I get kinda guilty pulling random cool people on the interweb into my... Particularly stupid tech problems.

Here's the proper one then.
34.11 version won't work at all on osx due to a bug that's only been fixed recently, and masterwork is not really adventure mode friendly...

I switched back to the default theme and it still the same but it might be a .net issue cause the last time I loaded it it said that 'begin' and 'begin envoke' couldn't be called till the window is made or something to that effect. so which .net does masterwork use and I will un install it and go from their. I got the deal about the sdl issue I was having is that if I run the df fortress from the main file it crashes on embark so to prevent that I read about the post earlier that talked about someone who was having a similar problem so I renamed sdl's as per that post. I ended up using a different extraction trying to self-troubleshoot the gui issue and I forgot to rename the sdl but I was able launch it once i knew where the launch botton was.

so in short if I want to by-pass the launcher to play df I have to disable df-hack and then click the default launcher or I crash on embark (even though df-hack shouldn't have been a factor when useing the default launcher...) and I have a gui glitch that may or may not involve .net issues that I can't seem to get the pop up to pop back up after that one time

I have no idea about any of that stuff (and I suspect, neither does Meph - he didn't write the GUI software).  He usually asks people with GUI problems if they've "updated their .NET framework", whatever that means, and it seems to help some people.

My B1 works fine, it's Masterwork that I have a bad version of. Also, sad to hear it isn't adv friendly, I would really like to screw around in such a stupid complex world as Masterwork will surely create.

Adv mode should be playable, classic races and gnomes should play should work, succubi is more troublesome because you cannot fast travel out of your starting area. Issues are the same as vanilla.

I re-installed .net 4 and the missing graphics are still missing, if their are any other .net framworks that is used be the launcher let me know so I can re-install them as well. but if not my issue might be limited to just windows xp if their has been any .net 4 updates since april 2014 cause that is when windows stopped producing anymore updates for xp. but if any xp users of this isn't having issues someone tell me so I can start poking around the basment in the dark looking for the issue and hoping that my grue repellent still works...

tech stuff
If you are not using windows, it wont work. If you are using WinXP, the GUI might not work completely, because XP is outdated, not supported by Microsoft anymore.

The new version for 40.x will be designed with ADV mode in mind. It will not hinder it and include some new features for it. :)

This excites me. I earnestly hope there's a way to expand upon Advfort and have it remember what you build and not destroy it each time you sleep/move out of the zone. I also hope the workshops work properly. It would be satisfying to be able to 100% craft your own gear, from socks to spear.

You've got to set it as a lair to prevent item scatter, IIRC. It should be an adventurer reaction at the very top of the list.

thanks meph I will deal with the glitch till I get a new computer here in a month or two that would be able to handle a newer operating system, but I like Masterwork so far I am still getting a hang of the various changes/additions to the game.

I got a couple of how do I questions.
Is their a way to disable aquifers in world gen, or is it currently not implimented?
and how do I change which race I play as in fortress mode, or is the cubi and gnomes not implemented enough for that step yet?
