Dorfing too much...
« on: January 05, 2015, 11:30:35 am »

Yesterday I had 7 worms left over from fishing with my kids.  I put them in my garden and told them to "strike the earth".  I was worried they wouldn't get underground ere the birds get hungry.

I know I've been spending too much time with DF when I start to see it in the real world all the time...

Nah. If you had dorfed too much (is there such a thing?) you would have butchered the worms and tried to tan their skins for leather by now.

Or tried to tame them. Or set up a milking industry. Or tried to use them to trigger a pressure plate that activates a deathtrap. Luckily, vermin can't trigger pressure plates.

Now I want to see a size 300000 vermin...

Or drawn a picture of yourself surrounded by the worms.

I do this with games all the time, especially DF.  Most recently, it was with Morrowind.  I woke up one day and saw an incredibly beautiful sunrise.  I didn't think of how pretty it was, instead I thought "Dagoth Ur welcomes you, MNervar, to the place where destiny is made." because it seriously looked like Red Mountain out there.

Not even mentioning bringing dwarven child care to reality by far?

I suppose I could have butchered them, prepared their brains, finely minced those brains and then roasted them with finely minced mushrooms, finely minced mushroom wine and finely minced tallow.

That's beyond too much and into "It's not a game, it's a lifestyle" territory.

During the holidays I saw something - and now I really wish I remembered what it was! - and my first reaction was "wow, that's dwarf-fortress fucked up".   The reaction was apparently more memorable than whatever it was

I was playing mount and blade a little too much, saw someone I wanted to talk to, and thought "I should talk to that person so I can get better relations."

Someone was annoying me at school, they were complaining about me being too much of a gamer and not partying. So I read out my own profile like I was reading a dwarfs'.

^^Okay, that's a case of muscle memory gone wrong. Happens to the best of us, though it usually happens inside games, not real life.

DF is so much like real life you can't always tell the difference

The difference: If you see a goblin, it's probably DF.

If you see a bunch of humans all around and no nonhuman people, it's probably Real Life.
