2h swords
« on: January 04, 2015, 02:46:14 pm »

first time using a 2 sword in adventure mode, I'm a human and i found a steel 2h sword, used a hone weapon reaction (custom reaction) made it a masterpiece and boy does it do work!! My guy can one hand it but the preferences make no reference to his height or broadness only that he is incredibly muscular. Edit: I added all weapons to my civ

Severing heads is so gratifying, a 2h sword is so much better than any pike. How do halberds and great axes match up against the swords?

Any masterwork steel weapon is going to be amazing. However, getting a masterwork steel two handed sword should be impossible. The only civ that can make steel is dwarves, and the civs that can make two handed swords are humans and goblins so there's a bit of a problem here. Also you shouldn't be able to use it in one hand. Only really, really big humans could use it in one hand. I don't think it's even possible for a human to be big enough to use a two handed sword in one hand. Adventurers however will wield weapons in one hand if you're holding something in your other hand even if they couldn't normally. I've been told this causes a massive effectiveness decrease, but have never tested it myself.

No it is incredibly effective and my dwarf draws it with only one hand because i grinded my attributes up to superhuman strength. I believe that strength is a factor in multigrasp vs single grasp as it should be

Once I played as a troll, and could indeed wield a 2hander in one hand, though I used horn and tusk primarily in taht game for rp reason.

I use an iron 2hand-sword on my dwarf, he has to multi-grasp it but i can pierce the heart of a Hydra with ease using the stab attack.

I think that whether or not a dwarf can, wield or multigrasp/singlegrasp a weapon should be dependent on strength not size but strength should affect and be affected by size more strength= more muscle (usually, building strength builds muscle most of the time)=more size
More size=more muscle(although it might be fat)=more strength

A bit of an unnecessary reaction, don't you think?

In one of the old "best weapon" threads I remember someone commenting on how effective two handed  swords are for humans because of their size, length, and the fact that two handed swords can be held by humans in one hand.

I play a human using a two handed sword with one hand and many headless victims bandits can attest to it effectiveness

Well just in general a lot of the stuff being said was really stupid, that specifically though was the worst part. I mean, Manzeenan said "I believe that strength is a factor in multigrasp vs single grasp as it should be" which I actually cannot understand. I think they're saying that in Dwarf Fortress strength is a factor in multigrasp (even though it most definitely isn't) as Manzeenan thinks it should be. However, that interpretation doesn't make much sense, as it is plainly wrong so maybe it's not the intended meaning, I don't know because it wasn't a very good sentence.

Considering that the one handed/two handed check uses the creature's overall volume, and that increasing strength also adds muscle tissue, it seems as if a creature's strength could be a factor, in a roundabout way. I don't suppose anyone has done any testing on this?

hi i see you are having a very intellectual discussion about adventure mode
I'm a human and i found a steel 2h sword,
my dwarf draws it with only one hand
Okay yeah, you're either a troll or an idiot.
For your information then any adventurer can wield any weapon in one hand.
Yes, that means that you can wield a two-handed sword in one hand as a kobold.
Your accuracy will probably suffer a lot, but that doesn't really matter since both stats and especially skills can easily be raised to ludicrous heights thereby completely nullifying whatever penalties there may have been.
