Played this for a bit and am liking it, though I really haven't strayed much from vanilla DF stuff yet.

Well as I mentioned the biggest thing I look forward to is new research system which will introduce the magic/steampunk progression. Right now the guns cannot be crafted and can be only traded for, and automatons are not in yet. At this exact moment I am making the Crooked update and then work on Chemistry/gunnery update immediately. As soon as its done so there's advanced tech, I will move onto scholarship update. Then I plan to integrate DFHack with advanced features to support magic and craftable creatures, then I'll include automatons.

Release 2 - Crooked update.

Additions:
- Fully implemented dregs.
- Crooked men now have different castes with various deformities.
- Tribals and vaulters now have a low chance of a "crooked" baby being born. It's deformed and sterile, but it can live longer than average race representative.
- Added tainted castes to some of common mammals.
- New creature: chimera. A hybrid of a dog and a bear, and a fearsome predator.
- New creature: horned ripper. An analogue of Deathclaw, very large, strong and extremely deadly. Found in savage areas only to balance it out.
Balancing:
- Cows no longer produce wool.
- Flintlock pistols no longer have a bayonet (use a dagger, you lazy man).

Deon, I've found that sphalerite looks a bit too much like regular layer stone. Could you alter the tile for that?

Updates 3 and 4 are out.

- Added pyrite gem.
- Added orpiment and realgar minerals, they appear in basalt layers.
- Alchemical lab has got more recipes: saltpeter (niter), sulfur (brimstone, pyrite), arsenic (orpiment, realgar) extraction; blackpowder making (coal, sulfur, saltpeter); moved plaster and pearlash making to alchemical lab.
- Added arsenical bronze smelting: 2 copper bars + arsenical block = 3 arsenical bronze bars.
- Added gunsmith's forge: you can make pistol/rifle ammo and flintlock pistols/bolt-action rifles here.
- Fixed some minerals' colors (thank you Teneb).

I've made myself a goal to release at least a few updates which are listed in the first post per week and add new ones as I go. It's better when you organize what you do :). Thank you by the way.

i dont know if it is a bug or a werid cultural prefference of my vaulters but all of my people wear metal mail mittens as part of their civilian clothes.

Mittens have the right armor type to count as clothing, also, awesome screenie of punching a giant's dong off from behind.

I think the fact that they are COVER and can be made from metal/hard material only makes it possible. Which is actually pretty cool, it means that you can make an entity which wears full metal clothing without being soldiers, I should definitely find a way to utilize it.

fixes:
- fixed champion (no longer appears before proper landholders appear).
- no more monotone brown grass; now there's green/brown mix.
- fixed security captains, you can now have multiple squads (sorry).

vermin: dragonfly, mosquito, twinklebug.
new furnaces: calcinator/magma calcinator.
calcinator: 10 bonemold blocks from 10 bones + fuel.
calcinator: 10 concrete blocks from boulder + sandbag + fuel.
calcinator: 10 colored blocks from 10 concrete blocks + dye + fuel.
plant: sugarcane.
products: sugar, liquor.
quern: specific reactions to mill flour/sugar/dye.

The champion must be assigned by land holders as in Vanilla. I renamed land holders but forgot to change APPOINTED BY values for champion :).
On the bright side, you have multiple squads now :3.
