You're taking MaximumZero out of context with a completely unnecessary attack.

But remember:
People didn't preorder because of this stupid "presales are a scam!" culture on the internet, or they're just lazy, or they don't understand how preorders work.
According to MaximumZero, people who didn't preorder were the stupid ones.
Except the people he was referring to were the ones buying physical copies of the game on day 1. If you're trying to buy a game with a review embargo placed on it day 1, what's the difference between preordering and getting it the first day its out?
Day 1 is enough time for the first reviews to came out, unlike with pre-ordering, where you get it immediately without any chance for a warning to stop you, and then you have to hope to God that they would allow you to refund it after you realize in a few hours that you've been scammed.

Also, he outright said that thinking that "presales" are not, in fact, a "scam", is a smart thing to do, that the opposite of that was something only "stupid" or "lazy" people would do, that it was just a "stupid culture on the internet". Something like that - especially in a situation where his attitude was proven very, very wrong - deserves a special response.

...last I checked, his entire point of showing up and being disappointed that a store ran out of physical copies of a game is your own fault for not pre-ordering and has no basis in the world of online purchases. He said that preordering isn't a scam; remember, you're not purchasing the damn game when you preorder a physical copy. You're just getting it reserved so that you can actually buy it day 1. How is that a scam?
If he meant it only in the context of physical preorders that apparently have nothing in common with what people usually understand when they hear the word "preorder" given that it's not even a purchase, then why would he say that it is a "stupid culture on the internet"?

A whole lot of people on the internet simply don't consider the possibility of physical sales at all.

Recently I realized I haven't used a physical copy of a game for like, at least two years or so, only because I took out one of my really old, old games that I couldn't be bothered to find on internet and got literally spooked when the disc started spinning up. I forgot the sound.

This game came out on consoles too. Console games are more likely to have a physical copy of a game than PC gamers.

Especially funny that people mock physical copies when digital sales are transitioning towards "Oh, you don't actually own it, you're just borrowing it until we decide you don't get to have it any more."

Ahem: People who wanted the physical copy on PS4 on day one but didn't preorder and then shouted down a retail employee because we didn't have inventory that they didn't order were stupid, yes. Absolutely. You don't have to pick up on day one if you want to wait for reviews to come out, or even just want to wait to see fan reactions which start pretty much immediately via services like twitch, but if you want a retail store to have something for you, tell them you want them to hold it for you, at the very least. If you wind up not wanting it, get your money back and I'll sell the game to someone who does. Simple as that.

Yup, that's sensible. No point in preordering digital things, but that's obviously not the point he's making, guys.

Is it even a genuine physical copy on disk? I remember that most disks that were sold in stores recently were just containing steam codes due to the reason of games getting too fuck-hueg in size.

The download is only 10 GB so I believe it's a genuine copy. It isn't too large to fit on a disc. We definitely do need a new format that can support these large file sizes, though. Not everyone wants to download from steam.

Fuck this shit.
If it's too big to fit ona disk then it's too big to be downloaded. Give me my 20 DVDs.

Preorders aren't a scam, they're just a dumb way to capitalize on dumb people and sell as many copies as they can while they still have complete control of the message.

A preorder isn't a scam, but it is a dick in your mouth.  It's you saying "I am willing to bet money that the product will be what the creators say it is."

It helps that people who preorder games can occupy the waiting time with their favorite activities, like putting their hands on hot stoves and being fooled twice, shame on them.
