3 years.
I read on reddit about the leakers and that one thing about the life to planet percentage. U know 90% lifeless blah blah.
Then these fuckwits who stole the game find out that all planets have life! Wtf I say.
I know they where all terrible gamers but i hope that it just happened that they landed in the goldielocks zone each time.
Cause I expected an empty game.
Fuck me. Plus one of them was mining Iron... his inventory got full, so he dropped some iron. To MINE MORE IRON.
Arsehole, fucking amature.
Also not being able to kill alien npcs?
Sure it looks good and fun. But there are a few things I hope these leakers are ignorant or wrong about.
Or i will be a little dissapointed.
In a game about exploration, factions, fighting in space, documentung life.
It seems backward to not allow killing of these factions or that life is 100% guarenteed on a planet, wow.
Just wow.
Wow.
Are you sure you wrote the code right?

As I said I have no idea if the game will be good or bad or not.

It certainly REALLY doesn't have good signs but that isn't my issue either.

I am just cheesed by the number of pre-orders where people basically made up what the game will be like in their head... not helped by the misleading marketing (apparently).
The only people making stuff up in their heads are the ones inventing reasons to hate the game before it has even released.

Like this. Wild speculation based on a few hours of footage from a couple of incompetents. Not to mention that two of the trailers showed worlds which appeared to be devoid of native life. Or that it's probably the case that players are guaranteed to start on worlds with life to help increase the initial dangers and opportunities. Or that the quantity and types of life appear to be highly varied--one stream I watched, the parts I saw before leaving to avoid spoilers contained a single living thing other than the player: a weird little hopping pineapple-bonsai tree in a small cave.

Eh. That's what it's looked like pretty much everywhere, at least in my experience. There's the crowd saying, "Oh, I can't wait to see what it's like!", the crowd saying, "Eh, I'm going to hold onto my money until reviews are out," and the crowd saying, "IT'S THE WORST THING SINCE HITLER HAD A LOVE-BABY WITH STARBOUND AND STAR CITIZEN !ONE11!!"

I have the opposite (mind you I haven't looked recently...) where people just make up features out of their butt... even featured stated not to exist by developers.

lol, apparently disagreeing with you is "inventing reasons"? nice strawman.

There has been a bit of squabbling in here.  Hopefully people can keep it together as events continue to unfold.

Apparently not.  I'll re-open the thread when there's a point later.

Okay, there has apparently been some new postings and the console release is soon, so feel free to discuss again.

Please don't argue with each other, or you put your accounts here at risk.

http://www.no-mans-sky.com/2016/08/update-1-03/

Seems like a helluva lot of changes to make in the last couple of weeks, since going "gold", ahem.

Basically, all I need is the slightest hint of positivity on the consoles release to tip me over into ordering the PC version. Forty quid, though...

Yeah, after reading about the pre-release leaks and watching some gameplay, I had pretty much written NMS off entirely. Those patchnotes won me over again though. If this is the kind of update we get day one, I gotta wonder what the game will look like a year from now.

I have the opposite reaction. Those Patch notes REALLY repel me.

I couldn't understand why, except maybe some weird notion of what "should be done for gold" instead of being added in a patch later.

general consensus is that they built a gold with fast access to all features so they could test that in breadth, then patched in the proper non-testing gameplay

Yeah, that's what I was guessing at earlier, and it looks like I was mostly right: the exploits that the leak-streamers used have been closed off, and most of the major complaints have been defused.

I suppose that if there was a good reason to not want to hand out pre-patch copies for review, this'd be it. I would have been much more concerned if it was just bug-fixes.

also mmorpg needs players, reviewing an empty world would be missing a lot of the meat
