I'm very hesitant about being hyped for this so I've pretty much put it on ignore until after it comes out. Unfortunately, I have a few friends who are going crazy over it so I'll likely know the good and bad right away at least.

Beyond exploring there doesn't appear to be a huge amount of gameplay, really. A bit of combat, some terraforming and trading and... not much else.
Exactly my reason for holding off, and my fear. Seeing 'what's out there' is interesting but it only takes a game so far, it needs to be an actual GAME as well. We'll see what kind of depth the combat and trading has, or if its more of a side thing

So anyways, didn't look to see if this was posted but you guys want some NMS content in this thread? Here you go.

EDIT: Well, it's not much, but it's a thing right?

Ye, I'm holding out until I see something other than a more complete version of noctis with much prettier graphics and some fps adventury bits to it. If its just about exploring and nothing else the novelty will run out fast.

They make a big deal about 'naming what you find' but who the fuck cares that you named a species of whalemoose on planet zagrab seven when there are 18 quintillion planets and nobody will likely ever see it?

And people will probably name half the species "penis" anyway.

Or other stupid shit, like naming things after pokemon or whatever. People in general aren't very creative. It will be entertaining to see how the game shapes up but I have the feeling I'll be okay with just experiencing the game via someone's stream

Although to be fair, that would be a nice game.

Name them with a code which, when properly arranged, spells out a url directing people to an ARG web page.  :P

Dwarf Fortress has a built-in name generator. I've used it a couple times for various things.

I used the DF dwarf language for the name of a dwarf character in the Neverwinter MMO. #offtopic

But at least dog Latin would be traditional.  Where would the scientific community be without the Aha ha, Calponia harrisonfordi, Han solo, Carmenelectra shechisme, Dracorex hogwartsia, Gelae baen, Ytu brutus, and naturally, Pieza pi, Pieza kake, Pieza rhea, and our own Pieza deresistans?

EDIT: Sorry, I actually misspelled one. Actually, I had the correct spelling, then "corrected" it. >_< Also added one more, because it really made me groan.

I just googled the names Culise put down and it turns out that those are actual scientific latin names for actual creatures (in case you don't want to google it yourself). Calponia harrisonfordi is a spider for example.
