I'll watch over your char till you get back Pencil.

@Flabort: Also, I just realized my weapon style (dueling) is supposed to be used with a shield. Do you mind if I retroactively buy a shield for Arno, since combat hasn't started yet, or should I just wait till we hit the next city?

And I suppose that's an interesting question, if dueling applies to thrown weapons. Technically it's not being held anymore, but the description of thrown weapons states to treat it in every regard as if you had a melee attack with it. Fluff wise, a thrown dagger seems a very duelist thing to do.

I can see it being ruled out for crossbows and such. Maybe only for hybrid melee/thrown weapons.

Or something!

Well, my posts are starting to back up.

Quote
Two-Weapon Fighting

When you take the Attack action and attack with a light melee weapon that you’re holding in one hand, you can use a bonus action to attack with a different light melee weapon that you’re holding in the other hand. You don’t add your ability modifier to the damage of the bonus attack, unless that modifier is negative

So it seems the attack would be the same for both, +5-but, her second hand attack would not count the damage from STR/DEX bonus. Attack is the same tho.

~Note, Portia's fighting style (Dual wielding) specifically allows her to add her ability bonus to dual attack, so she makes her two attacks with no penalty except requiring a full action to do so, and having to use light weapons.

...Huh, I like 5th edition alot more now.

Yes. You're right, I double checked this time.

I thought it said you don't add your ability modifier to the roll and damage, but I don't see that now.
Turn in a minute or two.

Note: When Pencil_Art comes back, Fire Bolt is listed as a 0 level spell AND a 1st level spell on his sheet.

He doesn't need to prepare it at all to cast it as a cantrip, so he doesn't need it listed as a 1st level spell. Which means he can pick a different 1st level spell to have in his spellbook. He CAN cast the cantrip as a 1st level spell, in the same way as casting any spell using a higher level slot. He doesn't need to prepare it as a 1st level spell to do so, but be warned: Firebolt doesn't grow any powerful for using the slot, so it's advisable to not use any slot at all and use it as a cantrip.

I checked the spell list again and nothing else on his sheet is conflicted. But it's advisable that he replace Fire Bolt in his 1st level spells known column with one of these: (Burning Hands, Charm Person, Disguise Self, Identify, Mage Armor, Silent Image, Thunderwave). He can make this choice later.

If I wanted to, could I do less damage? I want to only knock the thug unconscious, not kill him.

Check out "Knocking a creature out" in chapter 9. It's just before "Temporary Hit Points".

We've got two options:
1) If you want to strike only to knock out, say so beforehand.
2) I'm going to pause the action whenever a creature falls to 0 hitpoints from an attack so that the attacker can decide if it's a killing blow or for knocking out.

Arno regains 2 HP (Yes, really, I rerolled it to make sure and it was also a 1).

I don't get the joke...

I'm saying, sorry you only gained 2 hp from second wind, but I rerolled it after you rolled a 1 because I didn't like it and the second roll was also a 1. So a 1 was meant to be.

Despite GM fudging in your favor you got the worst result. >.>

I meant Burning Hands. Sorry about that. Edited.

Arno will stay in the good one. :P

Anyway, don't worry guys, I won't hold us up long.

@Flabo: Oh yeah, are you giving out inspiration points, by any chance? ((page 35 in the basic rules))

Yeah, inspiration is a thing. I think I should mention that I was impressed by the way the fight was handled and with the roleplay so far at the store.

I know you're fishing for a point by reminding me, but I'm going to give you one anyways.
