Wounded dwarf stuck in tree
« on: December 31, 2014, 06:35:27 am »

Hi!

During a fight with a werebeast my champion dwarf was thrown wounded into a tree. He can't move, and no dwarf with "recover wounded" seem to be willing to get him down. Have tried to build an up/down stairway in an adjacent tile, but to no avail. Can I get him down, this hero of my fortress?

The action I eventually resorted to in a similar situation was to fell the tree. Call in the WOODCUTTERS!
Also make sure you brick him in until after the next full moon after having recovered (and potentially treated) him, unless you're sure the injuries were caused by other means than bites, as he might be infected.

Cut it down, of course, woodcutters come in handy sometimes, but what will the elves say?

Thanks for the tip!

If he is prone, this is not smartest way to do get him away from there. Last time when it happend to me i just build a walls and ramps.

In my fortress dwarves are dying from old age.
Dwarven wine is a little bit like good chicken soup:  solid at room temperature.

Thanks for the hints, cutting the tree down did the trick and he survived, only to become a were-beast himself and wreak havoc in my hospital. Lots of fun indeed :-) Perhaps I will listen to the "brick" part next time...

Me, I always brick 'em in first, then wait a month. If they don't turn, then I let the doctors in to treat them. I've only had one die due to this delay of treatment, and he was pretty far gone to start with. Werespirals are far more destructive.

Backup save next time. There's a fairly high chance that "the spinning log strikes Urist McStupid in the head and the injured part explodes into gore".

Yesterday three miners were stuck in a tree and I killed one of them by felling the tree.

And I got a lot of job cancellation messages like:

Urist McPlanter cancels plant seeds: interrupted by miner.
Urist McMiner cancels dig channels: interrupted by planter.
