Tombhour
« on: December 30, 2014, 09:24:30 pm »

I figured that I better start documenting this fort since I've been putting a lot of time into it. Tombhour is a fort that I started in 40.09 and upgraded all the way to 40.19 as the updates came out. I've been wanting to make an above ground castle fort for a while, but until now I haven't had the patience to see it through.

Tombhour is currently in its 27th year. The only metal ores we have are cassiterite, sphalerite, and galena. Fortunately the goblins bring quite a lot of iron in their sieges almost twice a year.

The Fort sits on the cliffs of an ocean in a 2X2 area. It is near 2 goblin fortresses and a necromancer tower. Here is the dining area and meeting hall (outside).

I've been using green glass for most furniture since I have a legendary glass maker and a lot of sand and no valuable metals beside silver and the brass I can make. I had to pump magma up 120 levels into the castle here.

I really like the area because the waves crash on the cliffs and walls of the castle all the time giving it a very dramatic placing.

We've caught a good variety of breeding monsters including Giant Lions, Giant Cave Spiders, and my personal favourite, we've managed to breed Hydras with a lucky pair of hydra attacks.

Here's Tombhour's stats:

We've been just decorating all of the furniture with whatever we have to increase the value. Here's an example (this is not an artifact):

Eventually I want all of the windows and furniture to have this kind of detail, and we are about a third of the way there to complete the living quarters.
More to come!

That battlements area on the far-right seems to be a communal 'after party' room :P  Still, props on your ocean front Fortress :)  I'm curious, what is your deceased list looking like?  Have you had much trouble with necromancers and/or zombies?

That area is the meeting hall designated by the two statues in the middle. One is an artifact statue, and  the other is a Bronze Colossus that was killed. It looks like battlements in Stonesense, but is actually walls and windows alternating. It's also exposed with no roof to cure everyone of cave adaptation because of the temporary fort underground while the castle is being built.

The Dead/Missing count is currently sitting at 2857. Only had one zombie siege in the 2nd year. After that they haven't come back. I suspect the Necromancer died or perhaps the army camping bug? I'm not sure. Lots of goblin attacks though, and forgotten beasts. The military has killed about 60 Forgotten Beasts. I had set beasts to high in the world gen.

Just in case the undead come back, I have one small refuse area that's walled in with another walled in dump and drawbridge to be a garbage compactor. I'm hoping that when the LNP updates to 40.23 maybe a giant undead army will start moving again. Or the elves. They haven't attacked for over a decade either, though we're still at war. Maybe both will show up at the same time, which would be fun :)

Putting up the temple of windows currently. This will comprise the 12th, 13th, and 14th floors of the castle.

I wish the color was a bit better in stonesense, as I like the purple that phoebus uses for pitchblende a lot better.

Floors 6 through 10 are 3 X 3 living chambers that all have masterwork glass furniture with at least 3 levels of decoration:

Wood is currently the most precious resource so we've had to make tree farms like these:

This poor dwarf is Geshud. He's been in prison for 7 years now. He threw a tantrum and attacked a few people. While chained in prison he went into a deep depression and just stared and stared. When it came time for his release he never moved, but since he's a prisoner, the dwarves just keep feeding him.
