The flames poured forth from my hands, enveloping both King Gareth and Prince Eric. From within the fire, I saw King Gareth laughing like a lunatic as he squeezed the trigger on his crossbow. My eyes were then drawn to Fraledan, who fell to the hard floor with the bolt stuck in his chest, the final victim of the Mad King.

The guards rushed into the room as the last of the flames died down. After studying the three dead bodies, they looked to Prince Travis for an explanation of what they were seeing.

In the days to follow, Prince Travis and myself concocted a story to protect our actions.

1) We claimed that an assassin had entered the castle.
2) We said that the court wizard, Fraledan, had miscast a spell. It tarnished his reputation greatly.

It seems unlikely that an assassin would be able to get into a room with 5 people, set fire to two of them, shoot a third with a crossbow and escape the other two, one of whom is a wizard.

We could argue that Fraledan miscast the spell because the king shot him... but it isn't that kind of suggestion game

I expected a powerful old wizard to be able to somehow shield himself from a single crossbow.

We did just throw a bolt of magic powerful enough to pierce the hide of a dragon. I do not think burning a single person who is untrained in magic does not expect to be hit to be much of a challenge. Plus, we are angelic and they're evil, the good gods could had poured holy fire out of our hands.
