1. It's the right thing to do.

I hope the guilds kill them horribly. Whereas if we demand a cut we'll probably also be targeted when the guilds figure it out.

Hm, have you considered murder?  It's either that or letting it go.

1. They're insufficiently paranoid.

When I informed the three guilds that they were being deceived, they banded together with such force that it made the entire Guildwar a unifying experience. They removed the two merchants from business, sold everything they owned, and split the profits amongst themselves. I think it was the Thieves Guild's idea. I was given a nice reward for uncovering the plot.
(Gold +600, Fame +1, Fighters Guild +35, Thieves Guild +35, Mage Guild +35)

My peak adventuring days slid by in a blur. We made a lot of money and did a lot of great things. I watched Harold grow from a baby into a child, and Hermann and I were very proud.

Transmutation. Gives more objects.

I also thought about transmutation but would rather prefer enchantment as it might be helpful in many different situations and with +10 would reach 30 and +20 even 40 while a (probably decadic) transmutation increase would fail these barriers (and skill checks seem to be usually 30, 35 or 40)

Last bonus was +20. That means we get a transmutation of 37 or enchantment 41. Not a very big difference.
And has enchantment ever come up? If it has, then it might be worth it. If not, we're probably better off with transmutation.
Does crafting give a bonus to the magic used?

Enchantment has come up a decent number of times, but in those situations we tended to have only one success option, so I didn't show the other options. Crafting items doesn't affect your skills.

What were the options on the treasure-is-in-the-ocean one, if you recall?

In that case enchantment does sound good, although having some transmutation would be nice too. I'm fine with either.

The options were spending money (we were less than a hundred gold short) and Summoning.
