1? Not sure if it is safe to convince the King to marry the daughter of someone whose kingdom we will probably be invading later... Then again, maybe his kid can just inherit rulership of both countries and we can save ourselves some effort. #CK2

1) His mother fled to the elven court, so her son should be able to expect some goodwill from them.

Yasmine was a beautiful and exotic elf, tall and slender like her mother. I sent for her immediately. The elves came to Tornassa with a large retinue. They were eager for the marriage as well; it would be a great way to bind our strong nations together.
(Elf Faction +30)

The entire city of Tornassa exploded with the news that King Travis was courting Yasmine. After a suitable length of time, they became betrothed. The day of their wedding was very exciting, with dignitaries and nobles from all over Daria in attendance. I remember how close we came to total disaster when a crossbow bolt soared overhead towards the king.

I turned the bolt into liquid. (Needs 70 Transmutation)
The bolt hit Travis in the chest, but I healed him. (Needs 70 Healing)
I turned the bolt into ash in midair. (Needs 80 Conjuration)
I threw myself in front of the bolt.

The bolt hit King Travis in the chest, and all eyes turned to the back balcony. I wasted no time, having one of the guards yank the bolt free and then casting a strong Healing spell upon my king.
(Healing +10)

I ran across the court and climbed the stairs to the balcony.

My athleticism allowed me to catch the would-be assassin. (Needs 70 Body)
I turned the air solid and climbed up to the balcony. (Needs 70 Transmutation)

When I got there, the balcony was empty.

The assassin must have shot their crossbow and then run away immediately.

I used Divination to find the assassin. (Needs 60 Divination)
I never did learn who had tried to kill the king.

I suddenly knew which room the assassin was in, so I quickly went there.
(Divination +10)

I was surprised to find the old dowager queen, Queen Audrey, sitting in a chair with a crossbow in her hands.

"You are a liar and a murderer!" she exclaimed. "You killed my precious children. I miss my little Emily and handsome Gareth every day. It's all a lie. I had the guards take me to her body, and your story doesn't match up. I told Travis, but he wouldn't do anything about it. You have him enchanted!"

1) I put the old lady under guard for the rest of her days, but I kept her identity as the assassin a secret.
2) I had the old lady publicly executed.
3) I killed the old lady in secret.

That's what gags are for.

Alternatively, cutting out her tongue...

I get really violent thoughts when I'm tired, apparently.

3.  Enough Mr Nice Guy, these wankers don't deserve it.  She went along with her evil nutbar husband for HOW many years without doing jack about him killing people and ruining the country?  And Travis *knew* the truth, and didn't calm her down OR tell us about it?   He's lucky there's not an option for a double burial...

Uhhh, actually, I think Gareth was her son. Since you know, whomever the king before him was, he certainly wasn't crazy.

Queen Audrey is the current King's grandmother, the previous King's mother. Although I still don't see why she's blaming us for her daughter's death. We got her to the elven kingdom to save her life from her murderous brother, who then shot her with a crossbow when she idiotically returned and went straight to him with nobody to help her.

And now she's going to kill her own grandson to get back at us for "killing" her children? Well done, top notch revenge plot.[/sarcasm]

Looks like madness and shooting other family members with crossbows runs in the family. Good thing we're not part of it.

Edit: Although, to be fair, we did keep the story a secret, so who knows what she thinks happened that day.
