I feel like the game is cheating us.

Why is this so hard all of a sudden? Are we fighting the Aesir?
We lost our best skills of beating things up while not being all that good at magic. Thus our options are growing narrower as it is expected to be very skilled at this point

Yeah but this is just a barbarian...

it took 90 skill and 30 body to dodge him.

This barbarian is a tougher battle then a dragon.

Well, this is the king of the barbarians, who is presumably a skilled combatant, and the requirement is to win the entire fight without magic, not just dodge him. Considering that we killed the dragon with magic, the skill requirement seems pretty fair to me.

I didn't even need to fully take over the king's mind; all I needed was to distract him in a pivotal moment. He went glossy-eyed, then I shoved my sword into his belly, winning the fight. As per their custom, I was granted a boon. I commanded them to leave Daria alone and pay restitution for the damage they had caused. They agreed, and I returned to Tornassa. The barbarian raids were no more.
(Kingdom Relations Rises, Enchantment +10, Fame +1, Evil +10)

As I waited for the barbarians to promise an end to their raids, I saw a flash of white in the trees. I paused several times, trying to figure out what it was. Eventually, a snowy white owl drifted down from the branches and landed before me. It was beautiful, and I could feel the potential connection. I wondered what would have happened if I hadn't already bonded with Cat, my dog.

KINGDOM REPORT:
Tax System: Terrible
Agriculture and Farming: Poor
Foreign Relations: Excellent
Kingdom Defense: Excellent
Kingdom Faith: Excellent
Culture and Education: Excellent
Infrastructure: Good
Ecology: Excellent

1) Improve the Tax System. (Current Economics Skill: 75)
2) Improve Agriculture and Farming. (Current Agriculture Skill: 40)
3) Improve Infrastructure: Roads, bridges, public buildings, etc. (Current Geography Skill: 100)
4) I took some time off for myself, doing nothing to improve the kingdom.

Since we're heading towards the end of the game (we're going to have two more of these opportunities to improve categories), do we want to hire advisers for any of these categories for 5000 gold each, to boost them up by a level? Remember, we need all the categories to be rated Good or better to conquer the world. There are some reasons we might want to hold off on hiring advisers, though: we will be able to spend money to boost our magic schools before our final opportunity to improve the kingdom, and having multiple magic schools at 100% will help out in the final portion of the game.

We may need to hire an agriculture advisor. Do you think we can get taxes up to Good with our current skill?

1). Go go go!

Also, I don't mind the little good hit. We can afford a small hit like that.

I'm not sure about the taxes, but if we get it up to Tolerable, hiring an adviser for it should be enough. An agricultural adviser might also be needed, but the good news is that we don't need to do as much to raise agriculture up to Good because it's already at Poor, and we will have another chance to improve our knowledge skills before the last chance for improving the kingdom.

I applied my knowledge of economics to the Daria tax system, trying to make it fair and balanced. I had seen first-hand how an unfair system quickly fell apart. I knew that if it were fair for all, Daria's coffers would quickly fill back up. It was a long and cumbersome project, but I made some improvements.
(Kingdom Faction +15)

I remember the day I found a very interesting passage in an old book. It spoke of the undead in a practical way that I had never seen before. Unfortunately, it was very old, so the geography was difficult to follow.

1) I recognized the historical period and knew where the passage referred to. (Needs 70 Geography and 70 History)
2) I used my magic to divine the location of the crypt. (Needs 80 Divination)
3) I never did find out where the crypt was or what was in it.
