On the other hand, they might appreciate our bravery and determination even if we loose, if they are the "brave honourable warrior people" type.

Their barbarians, I'd imagine less of the brave and honorable to more of whomever is the most powerful and greatest,
though 1 seems to be the best chance we got

We lost our best skills of beating things up while not being all that good at magic. Thus our options are growing narrower as it is expected to be very skilled at this point
