A thought occurs: using a d20 system doesn't really allow for overshoots, at least not without reworking. Do we want overshoots?

Consider using d100 roll-under system, Dark Heresy/Only War style. It might turn out well for this setting as well - allows pretty precise calibration.

I don't think over shoots would really happen unless something special happened or someone was the avatar.

So, thinking of a d20 system, I don't think any bonus would go higher than +4. So, think of, say, firebending: a novice/average firebender would get no bonus to firebending-related rolls, a skilled firebender +1, and a badass master firebender a +4.

You read my backstory already? I don't even remember it.

Skills/Abilities/Traits: A skilled bloodbender, they are capable of using bloodbending during the full moon, and may be able to use it without a full moon after much more training.  They are also capable of stealth.
They is extremely feared, and can be taken by guards for questioning. He also has is own costume in shops.
Combat Style/ MO: They use Bloodbending in their combat style. When not capable of using bloodbending, they use stealth to sneak up on enemies to use a knife.
Possessions: Clothing, ceramic knife.

I don't want overshoot, but I think bonuses should be higher depending on each situation. Skill, terrain, initial attackers, gear, and speed are all important. Skill rolls should be larger, though.

I decided not to make Gunther an air-bender, It goes against the character concept.

Yeah, got it in my pm box still. Also I encourage people to be as detailed as they can on their char sheets but I won't demand a wall of text.

Yeah, seems like it would be more true to the concept that way. Might give him a "dumb luck" trait.

Also, ideas for a title? I think it would be cool to have some people that are completely new to the franchise wind up playing, so I'm considering not having "Avatar" or "Korra" in it, but I dunno

Here are some ideas so far:
Avatar: The Cold War
The Almost War

The almost war sounds interesting.

Starting this soon, perhaps even this weekend. On main thing to discuss: the starting point. I had been thinking Omashu, but then someone had one of their characters own a tea shop in Republic City, which might make a good place for the band of mercs to hang out. It could also be somewhere in the Fire Nation, or one of the Water Tribes, or some other place within the EE or the UR.

Well, it would probably depend on who we work for.

Spies/underworld contacts go to seedy places looking for mercs. It's entirely possible to get hired by an EE spook (or someone working for one) in Republic City, or vice-versa for somewhere in the EE.

Pinging to watch, since we probably have enough characters to keep a GM busy. ^_^

Methinks mercs should probably hang out near the borderline between EE and UR, since it is the hottest spot where a lot of jobs can be found + precious smuggled goods from both of the sides cannot smuggle themselves and sell themselves.

If my avatarverse geography doesn't fail me, Omashu fits.
