Obligatory spoiler warning, since the show only ended recently.
To channel my residual geeking out about the franchise, I decided to take an idea that struck me during the past season and turn it into a game. Most likely, a mission based game. Here's the premise:
During the fall of Zaofu, the Great Uniter dueled Avatar Korra for the fate of the city. Just as it seemed the Avatar was about to win, her will faltered, and Kuvira struck her down. The world shocked at this turn of events, the President of the United Republic became desperate to find a countermeasure, now seeing the lengths the self-appointed dictator of the Earth Empire was willing to go to. He found his countermeasure in Kuvira's own secret weapon and its defected inventor. Through some means or another, he convinced him to divulge his design, and nearly 27 years later, the UR and EE stare each other down in an uneasy peace, held back from war by the threat of mutually assured destruction. Planes bearing bombs and airships able to strike from hundreds of miles away secure the borders. Conflicts rages between the humans and spirits as the latter are harvested to fuel the increasing stockpiles, and yet are still unwilling to abandon the world.
The world is ripe for mercenaries, to deal with the spirits and perform subterfuge for or against either side. Smuggling across the fortified borders is a dangerous but profitable game. Additionally, two groups work in secret, against each other yet for the same cause, to end the long standoff and the threat of MAD: the Orders of the White and Red Lotus. No sign of the Avatar has been seen since that fateful day, and the world grows more uncertain every day.
Thoughts? I'd be open to other, entirely different premises as well.
