Theyre going to continue to try to path into your fort, so the sooner you take them out . . .

I saw 120 undead last time I checked the unit list.

I exterminated them all using dfhack and destroyed the corpse.

Sigh.

By the way, if you're curious how you could make reanimation into a useful tool of dwarven conquest:
