Ground where magma flowed is unwalkable
« on: December 27, 2014, 12:37:51 pm »

I accidentally flooded my workshop floor with magma, and, though the magma "evaporated", dwarves are refusing to path through it. This also happened with a fire-breathing FB in the caverns, and when I tried turning the magma to obsidian and then mining it out. Is there a way to get rid of this effect? (0.40.23, so no DFHack yet)

Did you deactivate temperature by any chance?
'cause that can cause such behaviour.

Yes. Does turning temperature back on briefly fix it? I can't keep it on because of FPS issues.

Turning temperature back temporarily should allow the obsidian to cool down. Then you can turn it off again (until you need to cool magma again, of course). I have encountered a weird instance of a similar problem: If you obsidianize "magma flow" magma (for candy extraction purposes) you seem to end up with roofless, unwalkable obsidian tiles that look identical to ordinary obsidian. In that case, I had to build floors on top of the obsidian to actually cross it. I've had miners trapped by this several times, and it has also forced me to build a number of "unnecessary" stair cases in the ex magma pit, since dorfs suddenly get cut off from their destination by these obsidian tiles when other tiles are "safely" mined out.

It worked. Thank you.
