You pull back to the entrance of corridor 12, training your gun on the breach.
The laser finishes cutting the hole, and a circle of metal, still red-hot around the edges, falls out with a loud THUNK. Through the hole, it is very dark, but the lack of stars indicates that it doesn't open into space; there must be a boarding craft latched onto the outer hull.

An eye-stalk hesitantly pokes through the hole, looking around cautiously. When it sees you crouched by the airlock, it ignores the gun you have pointed at it and says,"Warble?" Your translator translates this to, "Why [are you here]?"



You recall that the station's mission is to hold a terran outpost in this strange region of space, for use in scientific research, exploration, and, if necessary, as a military station if an interstellar conflict arises. However, it might be asking about you, specifically, or perhaps it is asking as a more philosophical question.

The alien, apparently assured that you aren't going to randomly start shooting, steps out of the hole and says, "Werble abble ebbler. Werble barbwel wub webnel web weer wah.", which apparently translates to, "We were sent [to] investigate you [outsiders]. We cut [our way in] because we were unsure [how] your docking procedures [work]."



You hear the militarily precise THUD thud THUD thud THUD thud of the security units running down the hall. They will arrive next turn.

The alien seems to think that the hole it cut in the side of the ship is a "door", so it uses some kind of psychokinetic ability to close it. In a burst of power that seems to impress even the alien, the scorched circle of metal is lifted in the air and put back in place, and even the warped, melted edges are smoothed over with a slightly wavering illusion.



Seconds later, the reinforcements run in guns raised, looking around for enemies. 147 shouts at you, "386, report! What's happening?!"
