If you could pick the next squire's starting location, would it be...

A southernly port where cultures and norms of society mix and clash with each other?
A westernly city akin to Marienburg, home of current squire in play?
An easternly outpost at the edge of kingdom's borders, a beginning of thisverse's Silk Road?
A northernly fortress where young men prove themselves in combat with giants, wildlings and mystical beasts?
Centre of the kingdom, trapping the young squire in a thick web of decadent court's schemings and plots?

I guess a quick prayer is harmless, so long as we aren't yelling it out loud.

Fanaticism has its place, but a minor tournament is hardly a crusade.

-1 to swordswinging, this isn't some world where a person can just swing a sword around in a public place for no good reason.

Except these are blunt swords. And we're in a tournament. And our fight is next. I'd say we have pretty good reason. Besides, there has to be some private place where combatants can warm up.

Try giving him a death stare to throw him off his game. If that works, charge him while he's stunned. If we're lucky, maybe that can become our thing!

Fellow squire hm?
Enter the game by testing the opponent--move to feint and surprise moves, to check how aware the opponent is, then calculate from there. Test the opponents defenses instead of just rushing in.

I doubt anyone would enter a tournament just with bravado: those are generally only in movies. :P

Smile joyfully and laugh shortly along with the death stare that'll throw him off his game.

Similar to Andres's suggestion, but do a Stop Short with the death glare to give the impression of an attack to throw him off guard and then charge.

Ah. . . . No.
We should go in with a mock guard. Dodge, attack, and slide the the attack in to the obvious block that will accompany, for our first point.
After that, pull into the Offencive for two or three points, and then the defencive to regain stamina, and force him into the offensive.
Similar to Andres's suggestion, but do a Stop Short with the death glare to give the impression of an attack to throw him off guard and then charge.
And we can start off with something like that.

+1

Also lets play a dodgy game at first and then when least expectant start blitzing him with attacks back. The goal is to catch him off guard and hit him well in a vulnerable area. Hopefully, he'll be bruised enough that he'll be forced to slow down.
