If you could pick the next squire's starting location, would it be...

A southernly port where cultures and norms of society mix and clash with each other?
A westernly city akin to Marienburg, home of current squire in play?
An easternly outpost at the edge of kingdom's borders, a beginning of thisverse's Silk Road?
A northernly fortress where young men prove themselves in combat with giants, wildlings and mystical beasts?
Centre of the kingdom, trapping the young squire in a thick web of decadent court's schemings and plots?

Well, maybe considering that we have nothing planned out for the rest of today, we could attempt to tackle our terrible, terrible literacy skills. Either that, or we could try to get the latest news, perhaps a lead or two for work or something similar can come from that.

Hm, yeah, we should probably work on our illiteracy. To the library/chapel! Since that's probably the best place to go for educated people.

Find our horse! We loved that horse! Go ask in the street after who ran off riding/leading/carrying [insert description of our horse here] and where the hell they went.

Yes, find your horse! If a guardsman has it, apologize for leaving it on the street.

If we don't get a job in the garrison, might be we can find work in the church. We could work in exchange for lodging and learning how to read, plus knights are supposed to be righteous and holy anyways.
