Build a few doors. Link to a lever. Order "Pull lever", put on repeat. Enjoy. Mechanically opening/closing buildings cause _heavy_ re-pathing lag, and doors (and hatch covers) react to each signal without delay. You could also automate it with a multi-signal repeater.

Other great ways to get temporary FPS crunches are "reassignment": have tons of items stacked up in workshops, then create a few stockpiles (probably need to be types that accept the workshop-held items). Seems like every item checks path to the stockpile. Assigning many animals to be moved from one pasture to another can also eat a lot of FPS. Large numbers of free-roaming animals generally do wonders for your FPS.

Disabling temperature commonly increases FPS by 50-100%, so the reverse - triggering extra temperature recalculations - might also be efficient. Magma pumping was absurdly deadly for framerate in earlier versions. I think it's no longer that bad, but might still be worth a shot.

Well it took 10 full years to get 300 dwarfs (11 kids)

Child cap is THE limiting factor of wave sizes!
I get up to 6 traders per wave and you thought
cheesemakers were useless?

A few deaths due to hauling logs over thawing murky pools
But game is getting boring otherwise.

25 more years to go,...

Things learned so far...
7*7 embark...to big,wasted space,hauling distances
Hevily forested...as above. Still 10k logs, trees regrowing!(cut trees BEFORE elves show up first time, and yuor set!)
Heavy vegitation not needed.
Low child cap KILLLS migrant wave size when reached!!!!

Anyone know how many squads you csn have?
The a,b,c thing would suggest a max 26,unless it contiues to a1,,b1...and such
if it limits to 26 squads of 10 max, I'm screwed.

I never tried, but it probably will scroll like the targets menu.

I had a fort go below 1 FPS back in 2009. 100 z-levels of mountain plus 40 years of dwarves carving a tower out of half the mountain will do that.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.
