brewing specific drinks
« on: December 22, 2014, 07:12:18 pm »

so i have several stockpiles, all with specific plants (ie pigtail) and i tell it to give to a still and the option is red, even after i make another stockpile with barrels go give to still. is ther a special dwarf spell to get this to work?

edit: is anyone able to make this work? rather than telling me  what i'm not doing can you tell me how TO do it

Check that they are set to be brewed in the kitchen menu.

Remove all the "give to workshop" things, check if it works.

brewing works fine without the "give to workshop" I'm just trying to have more even amount of all beers rather than 10-20 of all but 250+ dwarf wine

Are there empty barrels sitting in the barrel stockpile? If you look at them, do they have tsk next to them? I often have brewing not work because the empty barrels are constantly being hauled between different stockpiles. As a side note if your using give/take orders with a still make sure your refuse/food stockpiles will take from the still as well, I've had miasma from trying to set this up before.

Another way to even things out is to reduce the amount of source plants you produce so that your brewer can process it all. I use single tile farm plots of all my brewable plants and get them sent to a single brewery plant only stockpile (and those plants excluded from the main food stockpile). Using this method I'm actually not massively overproducing booze for the first time. However, that also means I have to restart brewing from time to time, as the task run out of resources.

Edit: I start out with a 3*3 plump helmet farm, and switch to the single tile farms after a year or two. Also, that depends on getting hold of a sufficient variety of surface crops.

If the following checklist is completed, I would say.. try with 2 stockpiles : 1 with -all- brewable plants, 1 with empty barrels/pots.
Atleast that should work and if it doesn't, maybe something else is wrong (burrows / dedicated worked / sherlock holmes approach).

- Is the specific plant in stock and unclaimed? (they might be hauling it)
- Is the specific plant brewable? (z - kitchen)
- Is there atleast 1 unclaimed empty barrel/pot in stock?
- Are both the specific plant and barrel stockpile linked to the still?
- Is there a route between the still and stockpiles?
- Are any brewers inside a burrow, prohibiting them to go to the stockpiles/workshop?

I had it working for some time, but found it tiredsome as they do haul entire barrels, rather than the single plant..
