Just started a new fortress. Fully underground mode, no light for these dwarves.

The entrance is being fortified with a bridge over a pit, when the caravan arrives.

"Great! Hard-earned supplies galore!"

The caravans wind their way through the fort, and then- turn around. What?!
I check the pit with a horrible feeling.
The wagon was halfway up the ramp out of the pit when the bridge completed, glitched into solid rock and scuttled.

Sigh. No beer this year.

The dwarves refuse to shift it even after I claim it, so it just sits there rotting. The animals in the cages are still Merchant, too.

Yeah...if you observe your stocks menu i believe they'll be listed as red (ie not belonging to you), so they just sit there and cause annoying item inaccesible messages.

Have you tried killing those units listed as 'merchant'  and seeing if the items become yours?

There must be a way to obtain that which is rightfully yours.

Let it sit long enough, it will become yours.  Also I dont think food you dont own rots.
