Dwarves giving births to triplets
« on: December 18, 2014, 08:35:25 pm »

Hi,

One of my dwarves gave birth to triplets.

I'm not using any mods, is this new in 40.18?

I've never had this happen before, not even twins.

[Multiple_litter_rare]  Not [Multiple_litter_impossible] :P

But, yea, Ive seen twins but never triplets.  No reason to be impossible.

Really? I never saw that happened.
Though I had a dorf who had 15 children, the last baby was born while the previous baby still in her arms.

I think it runs in families. I had a dwarf who gave birth to twins. Repeatedly.

How is she doing carrying the babies? She only has two hands, after all. Does one crawl around after her?

You heard it here first, folks.  Dwarves put their babies into slings.

Just like weapons and shields when not in active use - strapped to the upper body. And if there's not enough space there, strapped to arms and legs.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

PS: and triplets are perfectly possible, just incredibly rare. I had _one_ triplet birth and maybe one of twins in .34.11 and there must've been well over a thousand babies born in my forts of that version.

I doubt that. They can haul dragon and demon corpses, but they are puzzled by two plump helmet spawns. :P

I'm not sure how she carries them, to find which baby is in which hands. Looking at Dwarf Therapist or using V - I doesn't show me either.

One thing I noticed: it says "feels adoration after giving birth to triplets" in DF and in therapist it says "feels adoration after giving birth to a baby".

My dwarf got 2 girls and 1 boy.

I wonder if this dwarf is happier than having "just" one baby. Anyway I could check that with DFHack ?

Those seeds are slippery! Like having to hold two bars of really slippery round soap. They HAVE to carry them one at a time, or drop them.
