Just when I made a funny remark here about roots and retired a Fortress, the Volcano chose to breach into the heavily forested area and pour magma onto my outdoor farming enclave while I watched the forest fire leisurely. I watched my first booze stockpiles go aflame. The surviving dwarves fled in terror.
