Trainers start at 1, pokemon typically start at 5-10 for the starter.

Also I can't believe there is no "food" in the rules... There is a water purifier, but no... Food.

Here is my sheet... tell me of any issues.

Truthfully I am choosing Munchlax because... Snorlax is my favorite pokemon... >_>

Yet if it is a problem I'd have no problem choosing a different one.
I'm a snorlax lover myself, but after thinking about it and seeing this:

Would Riolu be fine as a starter? Or would it be too weak? I notice an underdog tag. >_>

Underdogs are pokemon with combined stats below 45 it is only important for the Underdog class who specializes in making weaker pokemon strong (In fact, Breeder plus Underdog can make a significant difference.).

Basically it is a helpful tag.

In fact your starter really should be a underdog.

If it isn't, you might want to ask the GM for a "Young" form (which gets 1-4 stats taken off all their stats, gaining one back every 5 levels or something along those lines)

I'm tempted to say you should probably base it on that. So you'll have to pick another. Also, starters will start at level 5

I think I'll just start with the Riolu in that case. (If it's allowed as a starter.)
The background I've thought of for my character may be too dark for a Pokemon world though, so I'll have to pass it by the GM before I can really consider myself 'done.'
I know how I'm going to change it if that's the case, at least.

Actually, do our starters start at level 1 or 5?
PM me the backstory and we'll see. Honestly though, the storyline I made for this world is probably even darker and I hope to god no one gets offended by it

I've got a sloppy character sheet drawn up. I've never really played a tabletop game so I'm kind of doing it by ear.

If we're choosing our own starters, any chance I can start with a Zubat?
I don't see why not either

Trainers start at 1, pokemon typically start at 5-10 for the starter.

Also I can't believe there is no "food" in the rules... There is a water purifier, but no... Food.

Here is my sheet... tell me of any issues.

Give me a bit to review it and plug it in and hopefully it all checks good. In all honesty, I have no clue if its good or not, as I kind of made a really bad starting character that had an Aron and was really bad in everything but breeding, making pokeballs, and digging up stuff

Ah, here's my sheet too. I wasn't sure about what money and/or items we started with, so I just left that blank. Edit: Followed Neonivek's lead on the items

The book says you have 5000 pokebucks for the start.

Though the book is extremely selective on what it will and will not charge you for.

Man, I'm going to hate it if I don't get in because I've put too much effort into trying to think out my character's back story and reasoning behind all of his attributes and skills. >_>

Riolu seems somewhat competitive with Charmander to be honest.

I just went over Neon's sheet and you got two more edges to pick. Otherwise, its fine. I'll go over Walrus' sheet in a bit

Spamming highmax with PMs because my background is enooooormous. I'll write out something in the same format as the other guys here, though (As in, I'll edit it into THIS post). I dislike looking at other people's character sheets when I can help it. It feels strange knowing someone's personality without having met them.

On a side note: Do you choose our starter's nature/ability, or do we?

Spoiler: Sheet (click to show/hide)

Note for highmax: I noticed while writing this out that I appeared to have had an athletics rank up coming out of the ether. I've compensated for it by lowering command. Hopefully that hasn't screwed everything else up. >_>

Starters are the only ones I'll allow you to pick for nature and starting stats, but I would prefer it if you randomized it all. Your starter can be your strongest pokemon, but it doesn't have to be. I'm just giving you the option to give it a head start

I wouldn't mind randomizing for Munchlax... but goodness are some of the possible results pretty wretched if I get them.

For example any one that raises Special attack or lowers defense would be devastating.

Which to admit is just a 10 in 36 chance... and I am a Hatcher...

It would justify the Mentor, but honestly the fact that he can nuke a pokemon's precious few Training points just to change a pokemon's nature is a very steep price that I don't personally think is worth it.

I don't even know *how* to randomize. >_>
I'd be fine doing so if you give me an explanation, though.

Also, I've noticed that the book recommends starters with 3 evolution stages...
I've also noticed that Riolu evolves to Lucario due to getting Loyalty 3. You may want to add another condition or change the loyalty requirement slightly, because it seems like he'll evolve way too fast (as Loyalty 3 is meant to be reasonably easy to get to, compared to everything else at least.)

Actually UXLZ according to the rules for the most part the GM tells you when his loyalty shifts. It is easy enough for him to gate off Lucario until a sufficient point in the game.

The rules even go as far as to say that moving loyalty past 0 or 1 is tough. Just have it start at 1.

Riolu actually wasn't as bad as I thought, its only issue is that it is the equivalent of a starter pokemon

Yes, but loyalty is meant to start at 2. The issue is that Riolu evolves at *3* which is directly after, and probably the easiest loyalty rank to get to. (All you need to do is treat the Pokemon fairly well. It does take time, but not a massive amount of it.)
So unless my Riolu starts out with a loyalty of 1 or 0 (which is insane), his loyalty growth will have to be gated artificially for a while. That's why I was saying that it would make sense to either add in another condition (E.g. level 20 or something) or increase the loyalty requirement.
Unless the GM decides to not bother with loyalty changes until a while into the campaign, in which case I guess it's fine.
