Because personally I would've guessed you'd have a much different reaction to seeing violence against a woman than a man- because of a sense of comradery, or just thinking that token beefslab of the week seems more equipped to handle a beating.
Camaraderie? Not really, since the people depicted are so different from me. And the beefslab thing... uh... no. He seems more able to handle a beating because he's not going "Oh no oh no don't hurt me please~ <3"
1. Ever noticed that majority of protagonists in "pew pee stab stab" games are men, whilst majority of protagonists in puzzle games are women- is that an issue, or just playing to majorities?
The majority of protagonists in puzzle games are women?
Puzzle games in my library (note that I'm not counting adventure games, but games explicitly presented as puzzles or puzzle-platformers, where you do more thinking than actioning; not counting stuff like Guacamelee or Papers, Please or Tiny and Big: Grandpa's Leftovers. Thomas Was Alone - Strongly male-tilted cast
So, of those with a solo protagonist: 16/21 > 75% are male.
Of those with a mixed cast: 2/4 = 50% are strongly tilted male (i.e. 75% of depicted characters or more are male).
What I suspect is that people think that having more female protagonists means that the majority of of the protagonists are female.
The point-and-click adventure games in my library show a much more even split, but that is mostly because I own the entire Blackwell series. I really don't seek out point-and-click adventure games enough to include them on my list, and since all but one of my point and clicks is by Wadjet Eye Games, I feel I'd be expressing the gender makeup of a particular company more than anything else.
2. In Tomb Raider, Lara Croft uses a bow, even though most women IRL can't- particularly women so "endowed". Should she?
Most men IRL can't use a bow, hack a computer, jump off a cliff and roll at the bottom, or engage in witty repartee that leads them to inevitably schtup exclusively 10/10 women mostly by providing little token gifts (looking at you, Geralt of Rivia). She should perhaps be depicted wearing an
archery breastplate.
